After a long road, what are people doing in the off season to keep active?  Other than MTB and Cyclocross does anybody have something cool or different going on?

I have always been a fan of cross training (and with that I don't mean cyclo-cross...). I really enjoy cross-country skiing, but I also play soccer, tennis or go swimming/running. I am not very structured on it, I do whatever feels right on any given day.

Since I am not a big fan of gyms it was always important to me to do other sports besides cycling; to ensure all my muscles are trained and I won't (knock on wood) suffer from Osteoporosis, like some of the "only cycling" riders have been reported to do.

I try to snowboard once a week, but this winter I'm more focused on indoor training for next year's cycling.

I saw you other post, I would keep up with the snowboarding over the winter.  I try to do physical activity that is challenging but keeps me mentally fresh.  There is plenty of time to ride indoors, oh yeah don't be afraid of the cold, I'm not exactly sure of where you are located but for us here in the Mid-Atlantic it has to be 25F or so before we start considering riding inside during daylight hours.  Good Luck

I found some really great leg workouts that have helped a lot with knee problems.....

Week #1
Squats (4 sets)15,10,12,8
Leg press (3sets)10,8,6
Leg extensions (2 sets)10,8,6
Leg curls (3 sets)10,8,6
Stiff leg deadlift (3 sets)10,8,6
Standing calve rasise (3 sets) 10,8,6
Plyometrics - 10 - 15 mins

Week #2
Squats - 4x15
Hack Squats - 3x12
Lying leg curls - 3x12
Leg Extensions - 3x12
Stiff-legged Deadlifts - 3x15
Plyometrics - 10 - 15 mins

I switch between the two of these, doing them every other week. I haven't had any knee pain running, cycling or anything since i've started doing this. Plyometrics has helped significantly with agility and also keeping my legs strong whenever I got up in the saddle, or ran for long periods of time.

I am working on getting to Level 60 on Gears of War 2 on Xbox.

Other than that, i'm in the gym trying to fix weak spots on my body. hips, abductors, core, etc. I started running and am enjoying that too and swimming if I get motivated. I want to give cross country skiing a try this year and might join a basketball league. Also, I like to play poker.

I mostly just like to lift all the weights at the gym, maybe 10-15 times.

I think the best video work out i've ever done is p90x. I about passed out after each workout for the first week. But at the same time i've never felt so good after a workout before. All of the workouts are an hour long. One of the ab videos is 15 minutes because you do it after the weight lifting days. Then there is the yoga which is an hour and a half. I enjoyed the yoga but i really think first timers should go to a class before they do instructional videos. Mostly because you may be doing the poses completely wrong.

Swimming and weight lifting. But first weight lifting. It makes a big difference once the season comes around.
