This is a continuation to my "Bar Upsweep" thread below. After trying six different bars in a dozen configurations I really didn't get the results I was looking for. I ran into an old friend who was using Ergon GS1 grips. After I made fun of her fugly grips, I asked her how she liked them, and her answer convinced me to try them. I've only used them once, but they seem to be the cure to my issues. They have four distinct positions that are very comfortable (round grips only have two positions). I'll update after I get some more hours on them.

Been using the plain model for years. It's my favorite of all grips I've ever tried. Also tried the model with little bar extenders, but some of the trails here in VA are tight and they might hook on a sapling, so I went back to the plain model. The only issue for any Ergon grip is that they are clamp on so your bars must be compatible.

I switched to the plain model this year, and they're substantially more comfortable than any other grip that I've tried.

LSD. I don't think there are any bars that are incompatible with Ergon grips. The clamp surrounds the plastic inner. There are some PRO lock-ons that have sharp metal clamps that can dig into softer material. ODI lock ons work on anything I have tried.

Every time I see Ergons I am reminded of Oakley 3 grips from my youth.

I used those in the late '70s, but had forgotten that they were ergo. The palm bulge was awesome, but the deep finger groves weren't so great because when you're flying through rocks, ruts, and flying over jumps your hands don't always line up perfectly with the finger groves.

KR, thanks for the flash back down memory lane!!

OF, I was thinking about certain (maybe no longer produced?) carbon bars that can't use clamp-ons if cut down. I used to have a monkey lite like that. The issue wasn't digging in, it was crushing.

There were some astoundingly thin aluminum and titanium bars a long time ago as well s some rather silly 99 gram 22 inch wide Easton bars. I think some of those were no bar ends warning type bars. I don't think anything like that exists anymore but I may wrong. 22 inches? What were they thinking?

I know Titec had some crazy Ti bars back in the day, but they had inserts for you to use if you had bar ends on them. Bar End Reinforcement Things (BERTs) or something.

I still have some BERTs stuck in old Bonti bars on my winter Frankenstein bike.

I have never used them, but have always wondered how they feel on the trail, we sell a ton of them in the shop, SQ Labs has just come out with some, getting some good feedback on them
