I'm fixing up my 12yo mtb and need to replace the rear wheel. What is the difference between 12x135 or 10x135 rear axle? Are they compatible and how do I tell what my old wheel is?
thanks

99% certainty you have 10x135. 12mm axles usually come 142mm long (at least that's how it is now - 10mm implies 135, 12 implies 142). I don't have any awareness of it having been otherwise.

I agree with dkri, you have 10x135. 12x135 exists but has chainline issues so it isn't used much (especially because 12x142 works better). 12x142 is getting more and more common. Most hubs have interchangeable caps to convert to whatever axle you use.
