CP, there are those who argue that the longer clamps reduce the bending load and contact pressure on the seat rail at the edge of the clamp. Thompson uses a fairly long clamp for that reason. Having broken the rail on a $120 seat, I can relate.
Your post looks really clean. That I like. Still I will take a seatpost with a two bolt clamp every time for the complete ease of accurately making (and undoing) small changes on the road. And my TiCycles post with the Thompson clamp is a joy to adjust with the small (4mm??, 5mm?? I forget) hex key I carry anyway.
