While climbing out of the saddle there is the dreaded clicking sound from the bb. The groupset is Campagnolo Chorus 11s using English threaded cups. I have isolated the sound to the bb because I removed the cranks and wrapped teflon tape over the cartridge bearings and reinstalled cranks. This method works for about 1 month and then I have to redo as the clicking returns. Any ideas would be appreciated.............

This doesn't rule out the cranks loosening slightly on the spindle. Let's say this was happening. You take everything apart, replace the bearings wrapped in teflon tape and reinstall the cranks. Cranks are now on tight. Everything is quiet. You figure the teflon works. About a month later, the cranks have loosened slightly. Problem is back.

I'm not saying this is what is happening; only that it has not been ruled out. BB clicks are one of the toughest sounds to identify. I've been know to do my best to ignore them, hoping the answer will come before too much damage is done and figuring my time and sanity are worth more in any case. And as often as not, I have done something to fix the problem completely unwittingly while addressing something completely unrelated.

I assume this is the Ultra-torque version with the Hoist interface, correct? Ben is probably right about teflon/plumber's tape but you're already doing that. That's always the first thing I go to when trying to eliminate BB creaks and ticks. That particular Campagnolo system is notorious for creaking because it relies on the two cups being perfectly lined up but since they aren't actually connected, there is some variance. Thus, creaks. Praxis appears to have solved this problem with their new BB system as it's a collet (sp?) interface where the two cups push into one another. This creates a solid connection and darn near perfect alignment.

I guess my only suggestion is to look at another BB system like the above-mentioned Praxis.

Problem solved! Rogue Mechanic sells spacers placed between the UT cup and the bb shell. This eliminates the wavy washer and creates a precision fitting of the cranks. No more clicking. Hillwimp is happy again............

Whoa buddy. If you just added any side load to those bearings they are going to have a shorter life. After about 6 years of totally silent running My bb started to click. I had to replace the fixed cups as the anodizing had eroded from about half of the inside faces. this very small misalignment caused a click. new cup and quiet again.

seems to me the wavy washer would not cause that problem, but if it went away, could be?
In the shop, we don't use teflon tape, we like to use this copper colored anti-seize compound made for Ti bikes, but it works fantastic on steel, or any threaded BB's in our experience.

No joke.. the stuff spreads like a social disease.

I've got a can that was left over from my days as a boat mechanic 20 years ago and I've still got more than 3/4 of the can. The tiniest amount is all you need.

I use the non-copper stuff since it doesn't lead to galvanic corrosion.
