I guess I am a geek keeping the visor on my road helmet, but it sure helped during the downpour while on my ride today. |

I love visors because they are perfect for mounting mirrors, keep sun out of my eyes (and the glasses I always have to wear and that aren't always clean) and they don't hurt at all when it rains (a phenomenon that has been known to happen in the Pacific northwest). Another geek here. (When this geek wants to go aero, he pulls out his edition of "The Theory of Wing Sections" by Abbott and Von Doenhoff, aka "the bible" and gets serious. Take that, CK.  )

Meh...I'm pretty sure that the "bible" would be quick to note the angles of a visor on a bike helmet are in direct conflict with optimal aero flow around a helmet.  |

The visor is a very effective spoiler that greatly reduces the lift that is trying to pull your helmet off your head (and your head off your shoulders and your body off the bike and the bike off the road).
Those who haven't witnessed this effect simply aren't going fast enough.

| I have apparently become a Fred on my mountain bike because I still wear bibs and a jersey when I ride while everyone else seems to have switched to baggy shorts and loose fitting t-shirts. Now I get "that look" every time I hit the trails. Drives me a little crazy since the baggy stuff has no performance advantage - it's just a style thing. But I do wear a helmet with a visor, so I've got that going for me . . . |

Not just a style thing. I wear bibs under my Fox baggies so I get the performance of a true pair of cycling shorts, but I also get the safety of not baring my ass to the world if/when I crash, as the baggies are extra protection and are a lot more resistant to abrasion than just spandex, plus a couple of pockets to put bills, credit cards and ID (so they don't stay in my wallet in my car). It took me a while to get used to the occasional snagging on the saddle but now I'd feel completely naked out on the trails without baggy shorts. And yeah, they make it easier to stop by the grocery store on the way home from a ride without getting the suspicious looks. Love 'em baggies.

| It's funny when I get "the nod" from roadies when I'm on my road bike, but completely ignored when on one of my other not-at-all-cool bikes. The only reason I got baggy shorts was because of tearing holes in my bibsfrom dry branches along the trail. |

| Always used bibs when riding dirt. I have tried baggies and just don't like them. I feel less restricted with traditional bibs. Only time I've torn/ripped bibs is when I've crashed. I can see how baggies would add an extra layer of protection, tho. Chalk it up to personal preference. |

| I never had a problem when I rode "back east". Ironically, here in the desert, there's less vegetation, but, even when alive, it tends to be really stiff and sharp. Think sage brush. I actually don't like the baggy shorts otherwise. Just one more thing to put on. |
