New tariffs are gonna crush the bike industry....almost everything is going to get impacted. Fair warning - make your purchases now before prices increase in the coming weeks. It is going to be ugly.

Our president is an idiot.

CK- I think the appropriate term is "fidiot". The RV industry in Indiana is in the toilet. Steelworkers (who were scammed by and posed with the fidiot) are contemplating strike because the industry profits are not trickling down into wages.

He's forked the boat business, the soybean/ ag business, the largest nail manufacturer in the US (I know the folks who started the company), and countless other business, why should the bike biz be exempt?

What an imbecile.

I thought high end bike stuff was made in Taiwan, not mainland/Red China. Are the Taiwan imports also getting slammed?
We are headed for a big recession. Mega borrowing by Uncle Sam will raise interest rates, too. They are on a real bender right now, but it feels so good to them, how can they stop?

Some stuff is made in Taiwan, but not all of it...depends on the company and factory in question. But it is more than just bikes getting slapped with tariffs...tires, components, GPS bike computers, etc.

Some production will undoubtedly move to Taiwan, but the island doesn’t have enough capacity (or workers) for it all.

I could not find a GPS unit or Computer that was not made in China. Might be a good idea to purchase a spare now...or we could go back to the good old days, computer free...

I stand corrected Garmin is made in Taiwan. All other GPS units are made in China and will be subject to a 25% tariff...

Light-n-Motion builds lights in the USA from components sourced from China (and subject to tariffs) will no longer be competitive with lights made 100% in China since those are exempt from the tariffs.

LnM is going to move manufacturing to the Philippines.

Sachs Huret belt drive odometer. I happen to have one of those, along with my French Lite, and my veto I think metal tin with my old sew up kit with original glue that might not be any good anymore. In my old junk box of stuff from the 70's that I just can't throw away.

The odometer on my fix gear has suspender drive. It counts pedal revolutions and divides by 285 (41-16). It has memory issues and I've only gotten it to work on very short rides. It's decades past the warranty. (I put it on my other bikes, but it is completely baffled by variable gears.)
