Also Tom Boonen recently invested in and promoted a company that replaces front derailleur with a 2x internal rear hub married to a conventional rear d.

I had something like that in 1966!  A 3-speed internal with two cogs and RD.  Tom Boonen's is (I'm guessing) a little lighter and sexier.  And more cogs to make up for only having 2/3s the internals.

I’d say vertical is only 300 to 400 feet or so. That typical range for in town climbs. The funny part is the new pathways ends on about 10 m of goat track before spitting you out on someone’s driveway covered in fancy slate. Then you’re back on a narrow road w no cycling provisions.

That's seriously steep!  At 350m, that's 18% average!

(And  just got completely distracted.  Two sparrows were having turf wars at the feeder while in the meantime, a chickadee just comes in, does his business like no one else is there and leaves!  I've read that birds see fellows of their species as such and all other species as just objects that move, that might attack, compete for food or be good to attack, but other than that, simply don't matter.  The scene just changed,  Now i hae 5 happy sparrows sharing the feeder,  One chickadee.)

No no no. It’s 1.1 km long (I thought it would be 2 km per above it seems longer but just checked Strava segment) and 117 m vertical (384 feet at least I was correct there) for 10.4 percent average and 18 max. It starts easy at maybe 5 percent then steepens not really letting up. Passed two kids sitting dejected by their bikes where it steeped.
