I’d say vertical is only 300 to 400 feet or so. That typical range for in town climbs. The funny part is the new pathways ends on about 10 m of goat track before spitting you out on someone’s driveway covered in fancy slate. Then you’re back on a narrow road w no cycling provisions.
That's seriously steep! At 350m, that's 18% average!
(And just got completely distracted. Two sparrows were having turf wars at the feeder while in the meantime, a chickadee just comes in, does his business like no one else is there and leaves! I've read that birds see fellows of their species as such and all other species as just objects that move, that might attack, compete for food or be good to attack, but other than that, simply don't matter. The scene just changed, Now i hae 5 happy sparrows sharing the feeder, One chickadee.)
