Bodies change over time. Familial tremor, for example, becomes apparent only with age.

I can get the wobblies on my geared TiCycles. Very related to my confidence and warmth. Generally getting worse as I age but the worst case was years ago on a cold organized ride in the Bull Run area east of Portland. Steep, rough, unknown hills, wet pavement. I crawled down some of those hills.

Now I fairly often go down Bald Peak Road coming home. Fast, very good pavement, near straight, good visibility with spots that are steep. I've never looked at my speed but it's a 50 mph hill if the wind is right and I have the guts. (I hit 49+ on its sister a mile away. Steeper, yes, but Bald Peak can get a favoring tailwind and be simply fast!!) I now bring extra clothes up the 2000' or so of climbing just to be warm for that hill, Makes it so much more fun. I've also found the more weight on the handlebars, weight further forward helps. In other words, the old racing tuck.

Zinn's write-up yesterday was enlightening. Steeper head angles being a factor, that he designs bikes with shallower HT angles, shorter TTs and stiffer tubing. I go for fit with long TTs and steep HT angles. I also love bikes that keep me awake and steer around stuff, even no-hands, easily and quickly. My ti bikes do have pretty stiff TTs. Big diameter does that. It's interesting that my Fuji Pro had not especially stiff tubing, fairly long TT, bottom bracket scraping the clouds, chainstays barely long enough to get training tubulars in and a very steep HT angle and I had no issue with the wobblies. (It did have a young, near fearless rider that trusted it completely)

The Wobblies. They're back. Not very organized (yet) but disrupting rides every chance they get.
