Or he could buy studded tires. What sold it for me though is the kickstand.

He must have been buzzed when he thought of this idea....

Of course you could just tied on a pair of skates and be a lot faster.

I'm glad he put the cleats on. I was waiting for him to saw through a thin spot. (And yes - a lot of time on his hands. Those cleats - a lot of welds!)
OC, that was pretty miserable ice to be skating. Needed a couple of hard rains to resurface it.
I've iceboated on ice with a little less snow but also less even (ie resurfaced by Mother Nature - not the best Zamboni driver in the world) on an ancient wooden and cushy stern-steering ice boat at about 50 mph. (Old but fully restored, owned by a sailmaker and with a new racing sail.) I watched the modern bow-steerers race at not a whole lot faster and beat themselves up!)
Now in a later (earlier?) version, that guy could save weight and simplify the brakes. Large diameter disc brakes. Using the saw blades and caliper brakes! All the advantages of both and none of the disadvantages. Light, simple, cheap, easy to work on (no bleeding) and the full disc experience. Yes the heat generated will be close to the "tires" but ... those "tires" should be able to handle it pretty well and this setup is unlikely to see a lot use on hot days. The crazies will take these bikes to the iced over glaciers for the ultimate cutting edge descent.
If they start racing these things, pile-ups could be ugly. Mass start races could end with a Mass.

Ben - the opening still of video shows perfect conditions on a large swath of lake for skating. I’m sure on his bike he just scratched the surface, haha. This overall looked to be more about the (over)engineering as opposed to the adventure. Edit - actually it looks like by the time he finally got it right the lake had received a snow dump but on earlier trials conditions were perfect for skating .

LOL, my sister sent that to me. All I could envision was a Bugs Bunny scenario, where you keep going around in circles, and make a hole in the ice.
