Dropped my youngest off at college the weekend, took stock of all the bikes in the bike racks outside the dorms. Huffy wins hands down in quantity. Probably more than all the other brands combined. One Trek, one Specialized, one BMC, one Fuji. Several Schwins ...

My first bike was a huffy. I rode that on trails before the invention of mtn biking. My first road bike was a huffy 12sp. I had two more gears than my friends. I had to be fast. Heck, today they are running only 11sp. Huh? Oh. That is just the rear cassette.

A BMC would make a terrible college bike! Where was this, Boulder?

Huffy is to bikes what Bud is to beer, and college kids don't play beer pong with Duvel, so to speak.

The percentage of Huffies is likely to go up as the semester goes on as those other bikes will get stolen in roughly the order Ride On listed them.

I had a Ross for my on campus bike.

around $100 to get you around campus for a year isn't a bad deal. there's a need for simple bikes that work properly and don't require a lot of maintenance. i'm amazed at the number of electras leaving the shop on a weekly basis. it's sad when you see people riding the faux 40 lb full suspension mtb on the sidewalk carrying 2 bags of groceries on the handlebars.
How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.

The BMC looked a little like EMC ... I wasn't sure if was a physics student just having a bit of a laugh.

OC - Dredged from a canal? In Amsterdam there was (is I assume) a little boat going around dredging junk from the canals: volume leader in the junk is definitely bikes

those definitely look like they took a swim but the bikes i rode as a student were only marginally better (minus the slime and bit more rust)
