Recently installed some new Pro PLT 7S round bars. PLT extends the oversized 31.8 top section and extends it all the way to the hoods. The bars do not have grooves. Taping the Ergo cables to the bars, front and rear, then putting on the handlebar tape, the bars become a hugely large oval shape (not round). I can feel the cable on the back of the bars and It is sort of annoying. I moved the cable a little bit further down the bar, still annoying. Anyone using these bars with the same problem. Or is it just me? I love the bars, just a prob with the cable routing. I see no way around it (pun intended)... |

I have always run both brake and shift cables to the front of the bars. To my knowledge Campy allows 1 cable to run front or back of the bars. there is a grove in the lever body that permits this. I could not tolerate a cable under my palms.
It can be a small challenge to get some housings to lay flat at the lever and giber glass reinforced tape instead of electrical tape to lay them flat under you bar tape . |

shimano used to offer this kind of wedge-shaped plastic shim that went over the cable to smooth out and fill the the hole from housing to the bar if you can still find it. however, this may have the unintended bad effect of adding more stuff underneath your bar tape.

| Poking around online and I think these bars work best with di2 as they boast 'integrated cable routing". I have old '07 Campy Ultra Shift shifters, I think the only way to run the Campy cables is one front one back. I tilted the bars back a tad and that changed the position of the rear cable a bit. I have to ride today and see how they feel. I only feel them when I climbing and using the top of the bars. I might change the bar tape to something thinner. I am using Pro Smart Silicon tape and it is thick. Otherwise I love these bars. |

| i pulled off my bar tape and contemplated moving both cables to the front. If I did this then the brake cable would cross the flat portion of the bar directly behind the hoods, where I spend a lot of time with my hand placement. I think that might be worse. I will just have to learn to live with it. |

| Will try when I have the energy....a little time consuming as I will have to pull out both shift cables..anyway, it's the shift cables that will cross the flat portion, not the brake cables...I changed bar tape to some Fizik Microtex Glossy that's I used last summer and have hanging around in my garage. It helped somewhat..I am always messing with my bike, never satisfied, I am slightly OCD...nothing will ever be perfect for me.... these are the first bars I have used that don't have cable grooves...I should have known..time marches on... |

| I have the Pro Vibe carbon bar that came on my bike. It has a tunnel for the cables that exits closer to the stem on the underside of the bar. I have Shimano levers so it works really well. L gather yours do not have that tunnel? |

My bars don't have that tunnel. I think that tunnel is just on carbon bars, mine are aluminum. Thinking of wrapping the bars with Cinelli Cork Gel. i could double wrap the tops, that would prob solve the prob. If not, I will move both cables to the front.
Yeah, I think the bars are best suited for Shimano, as that's who makes them. Shimano makes Pro Vibe.

I've been running cables in front and a little down, both one and two, for years on round bars, no grooves. I find they sit so naturally under my finger knuckle that I don't notice them at all. On a lot of levers. I have a bump at the brake lever but that never seems to be an issue when riding.

| For what it's worth I moved both cables to the front of the bars (which turned out to be a lot more difficult than I anticipated). Solved problem, love the new bars, they make quite a difference. Thanks for the suggestions... |
