This strikes me as a good idea (rear hubs)

Vittoria has ventured into the wheel business. I'd say "who cares" but for one idea they are floating. "an easily-replaceable freehub body". http://velonews.competitor.com/2014/09/gallery/gallery-italian-style-expobici_346972# photo # 18.
With this $25 body, you can have a second set of cogs pre-loaded on a spare body and quickly change the freehub bodies to change gears. Also the pawls et al are exposed once the body is pulled, making pawl lubrication and cleaning on a consistent basis child's play.
If this is well executed in a good wheel and hub, what isn't to like? Well it coujld take me a decade or two to get used to 21 spokes per wheel. (See photos # 19 and 20.)

Would want a clean environment for that change, perhaps requiring powerwashing the cogs and hub first.

PS: with pedro's nifty tools, removing a lockring takes just a few seconds.

DT SWISS freehubs come apart this way too. I don't think the bodies are cheap though. Really easy to clean and lubricate the star ratchet. And if you happen to drop the chain between the spokes and cassette, easy to undo the qr pop the cassette a bit and remove the chain.

You're right oldfart. The alloy freehub bodies are approx $70-80 while the steel ones are $30-40.
Other than Vittoria's costing "$25"....this is nothing new.

Oldfart, I just acquired a wheel with a DT hub. What's the process for easing the freehub body out? Just grab the biggest cog and pull? Maybe wiggle it a bit?

Pretty much. Fingers behind big cog thumbs against spokes. Pop. That is only for DT hubs that use the star ratchet. The lower end hubs use traditional pawls and I don't know if they pull off easily.

lsd, those cogs are on the outside. I don't see that it matters at all how filthy they are. But power washing those cogs while they are on the bike? Isn't that a sure fire way to drive grit into the sealed bearings?

You have been able to do this with Powertap hubs for a at least the last 5 years....plus they measure your watts, too.
