OK, maybe a bit premature, but there is no doubt that aero llids are here to stay. Practically every team is riding some variant of an aero road lid this year.

I am surprised to see so many Giro teams still riding the Air Attack, but I am guessing this is largely due to the cooler spring weather. If I had a choice between the Air Attack and the Synthe, there is no way that salad bowl is going on my head!!

The white Air Attacks Katusha continues to use are atrocious. I'm surprised all of the Giro-sponsored teams haven't switched over to the Synthe yet.

While I understand nearly everyone says they just want a safe helmet and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I do believe in universally ugly products. POC takes the cake with that one with the Air Attack not far away. The new Bontrager is decent.

At the end of the day, it's difficult to not look incredibly goofy in our skin-tight, brightly-colored kits. Let's be honest with ourselves and acknowledge that our appearance isn't doing us any favors in trying to gain respect out on the open road. Adding these horrendous aero lids only makes it that much worse. There is zero reason why helmets with MIPS can't be attractive as evidence with the Giro Saros. And they can be attractive and aero like the Synthe. Ugly doesn't have to mean safe and safe doesn't have to mean ugly.

Is that thing ugly or what? Reminds of an old Giro with one of those cloth covers, only about 50% bigger. Their MTB helmets are pretty good looking, not sure what they were thinking with this one, and then the Garming guys are wearing POC glasses, just makes it look even worse

Well, like I said last year, the first aero raod lids were just the beginning. As designers better understood the technology, the looks would improve (although LG did a great job from the get-go with their Course helmet).

The Evade was a marginal aesthetic improvement over the Air Atack (but by most reports a significant aero improvement). The new Giro Synthe raises the bar even higher.

The only reason I can see why teams are using the Air Attack is because it is still cool in Europe for these races so ventilation is of marginal concern.

Given the technology and design tools available today I don't see why any legit helmet manufacturer couldn't come out with a design that has the extra safety and still looks good, or at least doesn't look bad.  Unless that's what some of these places are going for, just to get attention.  Some people are like that, negative attention is better than no attention at all.
Agree with a previous commentor that said it's hard to look "respectable" sometimes in our kit & accessories, but man don't give the bike haters even more ammunition with stupid looking accessories.

I think that is very much POC's marketing strategy....they have embraced "safety" as their point of differentiation (a worthy choice, IMO....no one "owns" it yet). By implication, their designs say "if you want safety, you gotta go ugly. Ergo, if you get a 'good looking' helmet, you are getting a helmet that isn't as safe as a POC."

Man, my old boss at the shop was like that, he's still wearing the attack, but then also a pink Smith that looks like an old 70's Skateboard helmet, I'm OK with the Pink part, the rest is just ugly
The Giro Synthe seems to bridge the gap, Aero, with out looking Aero..........
true CK, POC is more about protection than looks, like I said, their MTB helmets look pretty good, and really changed MTB helmet design, now every one has something similar, like the Bell Super, or the new Smith Forefront, which I have, damn that thing is so light, and so comfy, plus offers full coverage
