Cervelo continues to dominate. Couple of interesting jumps though, name Dimond, which is a modern-day version of a "beam bike". Up to 33, which I think is about double from last year. At $6K / frame set, that is pretty impressive.

Interesting list with lots of brands but most are riding Cervelo, Trek, S, and Felt. Is this because of price, reputation, or probably just availability? Are folks using 650 anymore? I remember a friend buying a 650 QR several years ago.

With Cervelo (and Zipp) it is largely because of price and reputation. Also, Cervelos have damn good aerodynamics for the price. Their low end P2 has almost the same aero properties as their flagship P5.

The other big boys are their because of huge distribution and good product, although Specialized needs to get some updates done. Their products are a bit long-in-the-tooth. They made a huge push into tri about 4 years ago but nothing has been updated since then. They also dropped the majority of their riders, which makes me wonder if they did not see the ROI they were hoping for.

Naive dumbass question about ironman:
Are there any limits on bike design? (beyond motors of course)?

Not really...no recumbents or HPV's obviously, but there have been a number of tri-specific (and UCI illegal) designs introduced in the last few years. Aero sections that exceed the 3:1 ratio, beam bikes, etc.

No fairings, though either...

Motors illegal.  Does this mean that early Ironman winner Wayne Stetina's bike would be banned?  (In the day, that guy was a serious motor.)

Maybe all that matters, the winner was on a Canyon.

Not sure which bike had the fastest split though.

Fastest bike split was on a Dimond (Maik Twelsiek) in 4:25:10

Canyon is reportedly looking to enter the US market sometime in 2016. They have some GREAT bikes at very good prices....could be a game changer.

Better shot of Twelsiek's Dimond. Such a great looking bike with absolutely horrific graphics.....
