What's up, guys. It's been a while. A few questions for my old school gear-
1) What type of bearings would be good for a pair of Mavic Heliums? I think I need to replace them after all these years, but I have no idea with what. Which brand and the size would be good?
2) I also need to replace a Shimano Dura Ace 9-speed chain. It doesn't have to be the same brand if an aftermarket one would work well.
3) Still looking for a 9-speed Dura Ace cassette in a 11-19 configuration. If anyone could point me in the right direction, let me know. Aftermarket would be fine.
4) Where to replace battery and gaskets for the 9-speed Dura Ace computer. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance. |

Oh sure....you just show up when you need something from us. Best bet for bearings would be through Mavic, I would think. No need to screw around with silly stuff like ceramic bearings, etc. Mavic makes great bearings, so I would just ask your LBS to order some. Any 9 or 10 speed chain will work. I've had good luck with SRAM chains recently, although I think Shimano chains are still the quietest in the biz. I don't think there was ever a 9 spd 11-19 cassette...'cuz if there was, I woulda been on it. I think the best you can find is 11-21. No idea on the computer stuff....see if your LBS can order maybe, but I dunno if Shimano even has computers anymore, let alone have parts to support them. Welcome back....stick around this time!!

For the heck of it, I did some Googling. According to our late friend, Sheldon Brown, the "tightest" 9 speed Shimano cassette available was 11-21. Then, I was surprised that Nashbar had Ultegra (but not Dura Ace) 9 speed 11x21's in stock. So maybe that? Nick |

Thanks everyone for the info. I was hoping for an aftermarket cassette so I could purchase an 11-19, but I guess not. Still, the 11-19 will do. I miss you guys from the old Velonews days. |
