FWIW, back in my prime racing days about 100 years ago I rode a tangerine Colnago that I believe was welded by Ernesto. It came to me from an Air Italia pilot who brought it stateside knowing he had a guaranteed profit, as it was previously ridden by a Merckx teammate for one season then sold at season's end to help pay the bills. I could ride that bike no hands at 40 mph in the rain, always just felt right, and the weight was OK for the time.
Welds were brass, BTW, and as close to perfection as man has come since Bach Cello suites.
The paint was chipped a bit so I repainted it. Blue. Father, Forgive me. It never really fit me so I sold it for something that fit better. Smart move at the time.
F*ck me. Hindsight is 20-20, yes I wish I still had it. |
