God damn....the pricing.

DA: 3900 Euros
Ultegra: 2450 euros

Add 1K euros for either if you want a power meter.

SMDH.

Nope....you can't find it.

Perfect time for Shimano to introduce 12 speed because they don't have to worry about having to blow stuff out.

OK...this would have been a perfect time to buy 11 speed in a normal market.

LBS said he's expecting things to return somewhat to normal by 2023 with 2022 still being challenged. Hard to get stuff and they're getting squeezed big time on shipping cost. Got a shipment the other week, paid what they thought was their bill, next day they get a call 'look, shipping costs were actually $10k higher than what we thought they were going to be. Here is your new invoice."

Demand for new bikes seems to have flattened out though but it's unclear whether its a saturation of market or people being fed up with high prices and delays. Which makes it hard to inventory for 2022.

Here's a review. Sounds like electronic shifting is coming along. I could see it on my final road bike (if there is to be a final road bike), ideally about 5 years out (if the Orbea remains reliable), and once the major improvements trickle down to Ultegra level (sounds like a lot already has trickled down).

That groupset costs roughly what my TiCycles 9-speed cost me total. Granted that was largely used parts after 10-speed was out. But the three Campy cassettes (for a great selection of cogs to mix and match for two wheels) is still running just fine after nearly 20,000 miles. Rode it Sunday and celebrated a bike that shifted to die for (yes, DT friction) and had every cog I wanted to loaf up 1600', quite steep in parts. Easy shifts, great choices, no 3 tooth gaps. Granted, I have my mish-mash crankset and an MTB seatpost FD with custom asymmetrical shim to get sweet shifting up front in a triple and a low Q-factor for my knees. (I just went out to the garage and noticed the cranks on it. SRs from a different era, the new shine long gone and looking so slim, straight and narrow! The old sheet of cardboard clearance between left crank and stay.)

Speaking of Q-factor, what does this one have?

Gear ratio ranges suitable for recreational riders. 1:1 minimum.

Can confirm....shipping costs have increased almost 5X from a year ago. A container used to cost ~$4K, it is now ~$20K. It is brutal out there.

I could see it on my final road bike

I understand each of those words individually, but strung together like that they make absolutely no sense. I have no idea what you are talking about...

Simple. I only see one next (and final) road bike purchase in my future, after that cycling objectives will no longer require a road bike (i.e. riding into retirement with my wife will likely be done on city or hybrid bikes). However, the way traffic has been evolving in lower mainland (and with it the road cycling experience), even that final road bike purchase may not happen and I may stick to gravel bikes (lots of easy gravel trails in striking distance for a retiree to hit). There is of course club rides to consider but even those are getting more gravel focused.

You just did it again.....these words together make ZERO sense. There is no such thing.

There is ALWAYS another bike purchase....always!!!

gotcha (haha) ... but you're confusing road bike purchase and bike purchase. I see lots of Dutch bike style riding in my future (haha). With or without e-assist LOL. And perhaps a handlebar basket?

Huck - you executed the 1x purchase too soon. In my estimation 1x becomes useful at 14-speed rear. That aside, having pizza plate sized rear cogs is so ugh.

I noticed on FB that it was nine years ago I built up my Masi road bike w/ 11v Chorus and 3T wheels. I sold off the wheels and replaced them with something less aggressive (read: Deep) a year or so after I got built up the bike.

No plans to replace it until it breaks. Guys I ride with are on bike #3, 4, or 5 since I got mine. Granted I bought two cross bikes, two mountain bikes, and two tandems since then but still... same road bike.

I agree with OC. Except his observation about form over function. Well Maybe no. Well then again.

Dale, my newest reaches 10 years in December. (No plans to replace it until it breaks. Now if I could only live that long ...)

The 12-speed is what, exactly? An extra gear that some feel they will not be able to live without? Big whoop. It is clear that on the weight savings side of things, it is becoming an issue of diminishing returns. On the technology side, I don't care for any of it-electronic shifting, disc brakes, integrated blah blah blah, tubeless wheels, etc. And the four arm spiders that suffered so many failures in the last iteration of Dura Ace didn't leave me with great confidence going forward, and here they are back again.
