I think that would be cool, would they be successful? I doubt it except for old codgers like me who grew up with the brand though they still have a good run in Europe with Koga Miyata.
At that price level with Super Record it would be very tempting.

Not quite my fit, but what a bike! For the person it fits, and that is a lot of people, that is a steal for the $$s. Top of the line old school. I'll bet the workmanship on that frame equals any non-custom anywhere and a lot of customs. And a ride that will never get old. Nice! I hope there is a market to justify bring those bikes in.

Those are pretty.
You have to educate the sales staff if you are going to sell steel at this price point. Explain why the Nitto Pearl stem/seat pin is the bomb, things like that. (/career sales person) |

At least the are trying to differentiate themselves from the massive number of "me-too" bikes.
I read where Trek-Spez-Giant-Cannondale sell 75% of the bikes in the US IBD channel. The remaining 25% is split among dozens of brands trying to make a living off of crumbs and having to find some niche market that the big four find too small to go after. |

Gonzo, I don't know about your area but I don't think many of those would sell around here. Like Bobswire said, only a few old codgers would probably buy them.

| The Grouch across the street still rides his Tulip-issued "Team" Koga-Miyata. It looks pretty much exactly like the ones in the link. The only difference he spotted was that the rear brake cable, then routed on top of the top tube through continuous housing, now appears to be internal. The Grouch's appears to have survived some sort of guerrilla war, with something that looks like shrapnel imbedded in the paint. He loves that bike. |

jm and Dale, and all, thanks for the feedback! Our shop, Mellow Velo in Santa Fe, we definitely have a niche market and we do quite well, these will fit very nicely with the Cinnelli, Ciocc, Tommasini, and Olmo Streel bikes that we build for our clients. S.F. is full of old codgers with crazy expendable income, these are the same guys we have been doing Santa Cruz, Pivot and Turner 10K builds for here in Santa Fe, it's nuts. The good thing about Santa Fe is we don't have the big box stores, but we do have one guy who is the a big Trek, Cannondale and Spez dealer, he's actually a buddy of mine that I have known since I was 8. He has his faithful custy's as we have ours. If anyone here wants to hit a big box store, they just drive 60 miles south to Albq. NM but it's all about shopping local here |

j_a, I can't speak for the post, I haven't seen one yet, but that stem is 1) beautiful and beautifully finished and 2) really nicely made. Fits and machining are right on. Bolts are really nice. I have never seen a stem as well made. Worthy of the nicest frames made. It would nor surprise me at all if they have Japanese keirn roots. (If you have ever seen a keirin track bike, you know what I am talking about.)
Nitto has been making pro quality gear a long time. My Fuji Pro's bar & stem were as good as any in 1976 except they came with no Italian whiz factor.

Go to ebay and check out how much quality Nitto stuff retails for. Nitto is the go to brand for Japanese small parts, especially for NJS certified track parts. The Nitto S65 Crystal Fellow Seat Post has been around almost unchanged for 20 years. They are the Japanese equivalent of what American Classic used to be.
But my bigger point is you have to educate your sales staff these are the little details that you need, no HAVE to accentuate when selling these bikes to a hesitant customer. Stories sell things better than the thing itself sometimes. |

ha ha ha, very good point, you should see how the Volagi's roll out of our shop, we give people the story, and usually after some research, they come back and say, "Oh my god, I have to buy that bike now, I love these guys"" |

Kenny - those should sell in Santa Fe. Hell, if you took dog crap, painted it up nice, put a fancy Euro-Nippo logo on it, a nice groupo and decent wheels, those saps in that town will buy anything.
Kinda' reminds me of the Panasonic I rode back in the mid-80's.
Wasn't there a forum member on the old site who was all about Miyata?

SWG -yeah, but we are looking at distributing these in N. America as well, they will sell here for sure, you know the crowd, (More money than brains)
miss my old Panasonic, that was a DAMN good bike, story goes that the original founder of Panasonic loved bikes, but once he died the son killed it due to ill performing numbers. Damn those were some good bikes, Some Peoples Kids Dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha ha ha |

I wouldn't buy one. If I was going to go steel, I'd wait for a true classic to come along. Buying a bike just like the one I rode 20 years ago doesn't really appeal to me unless it is a real classic. If someone said they were going to make a car just like a 1970, same power, same weight, same handling... Just like a classic but not a classic, would anyone here buy it?
If I had a ton of disposable income I might be convinced to buy a new steel custom... maybe something in stainless just for the heck of it |
