I am selling a Shimano Ultegra RD 6600 on eBay and a guy asked me if it was a long cage or a short cage. Anyone know how to tell them apart ? I think it is a short cage but am not sure and hate to give out bad info.

Without seeing it,if it came with double shifter set up it is most likely a short cage. Shimano lists them as RD-6600-SS (short cage), RD-6600-GS (long cage) long cage for triple set ups but the designation is not stamped on the rear of the derailleur .
I get 3.25" (82.55mm) on the pulley wheels center to center on a long cage Dura Ace 7800 and approx. 2" c-c on pulley wheels on a 7800 short cage.

If you use a triple crank, it has to be a long-cage RD. If you are using a standard double CR crank, the overwhelming odds are that it is a short-cage (but not 100%)

If it is a short-cage, the two pulleys sit very close to each other. a Long cage RD has a fair amount of space inbetween, as shown in bob's picture above.

Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!
