| Her session on Mike Creed's podcast was interesting. Sounds like the leg cramp issues are not in the past. Also doesn't sound like she's too excited about worlds being at Hoogerheide. But the world cups pay the bills for her anyway. |

It's a beautiful quote but also hopelessly incorrect. It takes at least a three-some to have that awesome baby with cross-country running sharing the bed.
Oh and MTB was not even a minor when the baby was born, maybe this incident should be reported to the proper authorities?  |

I definitely thought about the "chicken" dealer when I read KFC.
It also seems to me that cyclocross is the sport that would happen if fixsters, drunk on cheap beer and still hateful of the high school jocks who "ruined" their four years, decided that gears and racing actually are cool. But that it isn't cool to take sports seriously or try, that could ruin your cred. So they still bought bikes with gears and still continued to drink, via handups, but acted as if it weren't a competition. I definitely sense this mocking of training and proclamation of self-defeat at some of the races I attend. Why spend the $30 and drive 2 hours if you are sure you are going to DNF because you actually never train?
Anyway, good luck to Katie in two weeks. I'm sure I'm not the only one who won't be watching the Super Bowl but will be watching the CX championships. |

I watched Compton get her first two Nats wins in the city of fixie hipsters; the masters of laying rubber to slow on downhills. (Which I find pretty funny. I regularly cruise past them on my fix gear because I fit my bikes with these uncool things known to some as brakes and am willing to use them.)
Compton pulled off those two wins in Portland doing it the hard way; starting with zero UCI points and therefore, midfeild even as defending champ. (UCI points would have disqualified her as captain of the track tandem with a blind woman where they ruled for years.) So Compton started her run doing it differently in a city where different is viewed as good. But unlike those that you talk of Ron, she was willing to be really uncool and 0do the work.
In a world of sports with superstars,jer rival, Marianne Vos, is a gift, a true superstar who is also a classy person. But no one has done more work or better deserves this Worlds than Compton. Go Katie!

Sure hope Compton recovers from her allergies so we can have a real race this weekend. And I bet Vos will be thinking the same.

2nd that, OC. I thought the same thing when I read the race results Sunday.
I wish we had a really good, balanced policy on medicinal drugs. There are allergy and asthma medications that work. Used responsibly for real allergy/asthma symptoms, they don't turn riders into race winners, but they would allow race winning athletes to ride near their best when these things happen. I'm sure Vos would rather have to battle a Compton at her best then cruise to an easy victory.
If Compton can get/stay healthy, this could a classic battle. One of the best female crosser the sport has seen against one of the great all-arounders. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
