I am tired of Discovery/USPS riders talking. Now Mike Barry.

I actually expected better of him, ah well. I guess they have to sell books now to make money.
In Shadows on the Road, Barry claims that when Hoste attacked with Boonen in the finale of the 2006 Ronde, they reached a financial agreement that also ensured that another Discovery Channel teammate, George Hincapie, was removed from contention. Hincapie won the sprint for third place, 1:17 down, although the result has since been disqualified after he confessed to doping in 2012. “Immediately they [Hoste and Boonen] cooperated, forging a gap ahead of George and the others. As I watch the scenario unfold, the riders spoke for a few moments together and then with our directeur, who followed in the team car. It was apparent that a deal had been made, with George left out, his legs strong enough to win but his hands tied by shady racing tactics and backroom deals,” Barry wrote. “Money had determined the outcome, as it does in far too many races, merely adding to the corruption of the sport.”

Leif Hoste has refuted Michael Barry’s allegation that he sold the 2006 Tour of Flanders to Tom Boonen.

Well a lot of these guys have some stories to tell but they have been pre-empted by USADA. When USADA suspended these guys, the value of their books plummeted.

I think Barry always fancied himself a bit of a writer with an inside scoop. His audience is the casual fan who is still titillated by this stuff.

In the end, Hosta may have made a good deal as I'm sure it was more money than he would have gotten from George's improbable win. FWIW Hoste didn't last long at Disco did he?

I agree, Keith. Looks like an attempt to lessen the stigma of being a doper by saying that other (in this case, unproven) bad things went on in cycling.

Hah...shows my perspective on the whole thing. My first reaction was "what? Didn't he already confess?"

Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

This doesn't bother me much. I see it as far better than the lie we were told over and over about how clean LA and his team were while all that was happening. Every one of them can write a book or two. I am under no pressure to buy or read them but back in the day, it was hard not to hear the protestations of innocence if you had any interest in pro racing.

I might pull the book I hear is the best read out of the library in a few years. Could be good entertainment.

Intellectually I agree with you, but after how long and hard these yahoos denied their drug use and feined hurt and indignation over any questions about PED's it is fascintating now how many of them are falling all over themselves to "confess" and clear their consiciousnesses. If it is possibly they appear even more pathetic in their come clean modes
