Anyone care? I'm kind of impressed that Garmin didnt give him an automatic entry. Guess theyre more interested in racing to win than blowing smoke up a self-important wankers arsehole.

He doesn't deserve a spot. Garmin-Sharp shouldn't waste a spot just so Millar can have a farewell tour.

Thought he already retired like 5 years ago, right?

While I think a farewell tour would have been a nice gesture to Millar, I am impressed that Garmin didn't just give him an automatic slot.

Not surprising though that he is already whining about it on Twitter.....

It's hard to argue with their roster, although I don't know much about Ben King or Jack Bauer.

Now if the Tour were starting in Scotland, I'd say Millar should have gotten a spot, but it's only starting in England.

I'd whine about it too! He's still a good bet for a stage win and he has a ton of experience doing grand tours. Not to mention FOUR TdF stage wins, including a short stint wearing yellow. That's quite the palmares, wouldn't you say? And possibly, just possibly, deserving of one last shot to win a stage of this grand event?

Sure, he might whine a bit (a lot!,) but much of what he says is valid. He just has the balls to say it in his typical bratty way. He's intense but I always found him to be humorous during interviews. Hell, at least he HAS a personality! Froome is beyond boring and Wiggins should just leave, and hopefully take that terrible haircut and sideburns with him.

What 6ix said*; at a minimum he's an excellent road captain.

Take the bottom pick from Garmin lineup and tell me Millar could not operate at that level. That should be the only metricm

Griping about whining, say it aint so! :-)

(* minus the bit about Wiggo; I like Wiggo; don't care at all for Millar)

As I have read the accounts, Millar was on the bubble all along. Then he was sick after Dauphine (or was it Switzerland?) and dropped out of both the TT and road race for Nationals.

That left Garmin with having to make a tough decision.

Like I said, it is too bad he didn't get a shot at a farewell Tour, especially since this starts on home turf.

Vaughters is well aware of the necessity of keeping UCI points within his team. I'd bet his tour team is all coming back to Garmin next year and he'd rather have the points. I'm not sure what happens to points from retired riders.

It's a tough decision. Millar has done a lot for that team and his Tour win a few years showed that he is still a quality rider and knows how to finish a race.

Yep - I think they could have used his experience plus he still has plenty of HP under the hood to be the water boy.

I don't think the losing UCI points argument holds because the likes of Bauer/King are unlikely to gain any. Maximum points come from taking Talansky to highest level possible.

Sounds like the decision was flipped from probable yes to a no at the Nationals (last minute) so that's a bit raw. Extra raw cause he was going to be filmed in TdF for his documentary but that's just his ego.

Also some unconfirmed rumors that Millar and JV may not see eye to eye on Talansky. Anyone heard of that one?

Yeah I heard that - Vaughters wanted Millar to dope and Millar said NO unless you get rid of your pork chops and those stupid Harry Potter glasses
