Can you "customize" cassettes much? Back with freewheels, a few (smallest) came threaded, and then the rest (slide on) you could mix and match virtually anything. Now I guess the smallest and intermediate are highly customizable, but the group of biggest ones are pre-manufactured. Right? (small means small cogs and vice versa, not gears) Plus...when I was a junior, we ran a 53X15. What do the youngin's do nowadays?

Ya right from small to big real quick. It does look like a 32.

Looks like a 32 but anything more than a 4 drop would not make sense and looks unlikely from that image. Likely 11-32T: 11-12-13-14-15-17-19-22-25-28-32

Nick, a junior (under 18) that I ride with often is on 52x14 but has his bike rolled out at all races just to be sure....26 feet is the limit.

You guys have it all wrong. It's just a European adaptation of American cuisine. Cob of corn served on a pie plate.

I guess the 52X14 works...it was 30 years ago. LOL. They may have upped the roll out distance. I think that might not have worked way back when.

Nick, smaller wheels? I recall 15s being necessary way back when.

79pmooney...maybe. Someone convinced me I could get a slightly taller gear with a 49X14 and I failed rollout. Luckily it was before the race, and I borrowed a lower profile tire and made it. It was a six turn criterium and I got so dropped. Oh well. LOL.

OK I'll bite -- what is "roll out" exactly?

A month or so ago the entire junior field in a local race was DQ'ed over gearing
