In the above article - Oleg criticizes Riis for not doing very much "other than deciding race tactics." Oleg says now he'll be in the cars during the races. But he wont be deciding race tactics. In summary Oleg will now be in the car doing even less than what Riis did.

O yeah -- and way to dump on Sagan. Great owner. He reminds me of George Steinbrenner but without the filter. George didnt go out of his way to publically insult his players and coaches. Seems Oleg relishes doing just that.

well maybe George did go out of his way to publicallly critique his team/players/coach. And sometimes it did produce results ... Maybe Oleg is a good owner. Just seems like an ass btw I'm enjoying my own thread

Tinkoff is a giant ass-clown, and ultimately, bad for the sport. Unfortunately, the sport has become ever more dependent on "angel sponsors" like Tinkoff and Rihs from BMC....people who love the sport and have the disposable income to support it.

Cycling has no one but itself to blame....they created a sport so toxic that no company wants to assume the risk of being associated with dopers and cheats.

Although harsh, his comments re: Sagan are spot on, IMO.
Just say "NO!" to WCP!!!!

Other than being bad for sport and a clown (agreed) you're mising the point on Riis doing nothing "other than deciding race tactics." The point is that the sport has moved on from a team management perspective, see eg Sky. Riis was still stuck in old style management and Oleg being a sharp business man saw that. He's right on this one.

The idea of him behind wheel of team car giving direction is laughable and scary though.

yeah - but doesnt SKY still have Brailsford -- a cycling guy with a successful history who has the respect of his riders. Not sure who that guy is a Tinkoff

Maybe Oleg is Tom Bradys alter ego?

Not to hijack this thread but, speaking of Tommy boy. If they want his phone records, all they need to do is call the NSA. Problem solved.

A thought on Braillesford.  He did make a huge oops IMO last year.  How was it that no Sky rider was beside Froome at the start of that early, flat sprinter's stage last year?  The entire team had only one objective that stage, to get Froome over the finish in the same time and intact.  Postal/Discovery spent seven years demonstrating how that was done.  Had Tinkoff simply said "protect Contador", he could have been forgiven for a lot of mistakes.

to say Sagan is having a bad season is in itself a complete miss. His results are great considering the teams he is riding solo against. Maybe if Tnkoff provided Sagan a team to support him in the races he was second and top 5!

Nah...Tinkov may be a little crazy but he's a sharp business man and the points he's making about Sagan, salaries and team composition are spot on. Sagan's season isn't anywhere near last two years where he also had little support.

Have to disagree OC -- what works for Tinkov in the business world may not necessarily work in the very unique world of pro - cycling. First off Sagan is a star. He brings people to the sport and he wins a lot. Tinkoff wanted him on the team so he cant just whine when Sagan doesnt win every race. The boy earned his contract - thats how it works: you win a lot and you get a big contract. If he wants to predicate a proven star's earnings on future wins then fine give it a try -- see how many huge stars sign up for that. Your team will become a developmental squad for other teams that give top riders guaranteed contracts.

And this tactic of calling out your players in a public forum is low class and counter-productive. In this round Sagan - the guy who pinched the podium girls ass on TV - outclassed Oleg by a lot.

Tour of California - Tinkoff
Tour of Norway - Tinkoff
Giro - Tinkoff barring any late surprises

Brailsford just said he thinks Oleg is good for the sport loud as he may be. LOL!

He's certainly managed to turn the team around in May. Behind the scenes he's been busy putting the right people in right spots.
