In case anyone didn't know it, NBC Sports has live, online, HIDEF coverage of the Dauphine. If NBC Sports is on your cable / satellite program, you should be able to watch online. Just sign in under your provider.

TJ in yellow!

Some wise forumite had observed a couple of years ago that these shorter stage races are his best shot at major success.

watched that last climb and I have 2 observations:

1.Compared with the Giro riders these guys just look slow and lethargic. Maybe an illusion but nobody looks like theyre cruising anywhere near the speeds we saw AC, Aru and Landa ride a few weeks ago.

2. Nibali is a little weany -- I mean really? Just decides to pull off and not play anymore when it got tough... I'd cut him from the tdf team and get Landa ready... actually kind of disrespectful to his competition and the race imo

Stronz - your two observation come down to this: a lot of the TdF contenders, Nibali foremost, are simply measuring their efforts in this warm-up race. This goes exactly to some of the points Tinkoff is making about bike racing needing a complete revamp. As it stands there's only a handful of classics and 3 stage races on the calendar that matter, the rest more often that not has a huge yawn factor.

And yes, because the real contenders are still warming up, these shorter races are exactly TJs prime hunting ground.

OC - I get that but it just seems to be more here than usual. I think there used to be more competition and pros were willing to push harder at the Dauphine. I mean you can be good at BOTH the Dauphine and the Tour. Its not like you cant go hard here and if you want to peak in four or five weeks. I think its a little bit of the riders personalities at this race. I would like to have seen Purito or Valverde throw in a nice dig -- maybe on the last two stages. Perhaps it was not steep enough today. Still didnt like Nibali take himself out of the group

Like I said -- that Nibali sure has moxie! --- OK he laid it out today and it made for an exciting stage -- nice to see it. He should have won the stage but still in yellow. Either Froome and SKY are just not in shape yet or they are completely clueless on how to win a bike race. Just seem lost out there...

Teejay and BMC got taken to the woodshed today.....it is one thing to take a jersey, a whole other thing to defend it.

It rained so the big boys came to play. Froome looked gawdawful.

Valverde had an interesting mini fender to keep his rear end dry.

Great stage today....Teejay impressed me. Still doesn't have what it takes to contend in July (especially this year's course), but a great performance today.

Froome's final kick was also surprising.

That was great racing and France is looking as good as ever. I've got to admitt I love the scenery almost as much as the racing. As I've never been to the Alps.

So I guess the playing field for Tour is clear then...if you're name is not Quintana then you better take Froome to the woodshed in week one and hope for some rainy days on the technical opening stages.

OC, that's not what I saw. Froome took back time on TJ, but didn't crush him. TJ was playing the big actor on a small stage, not say an AC riding for the big one. Tj also spent far more time riding the front over the week,

I'm betting that rain won't be a factor this year (based on what I am seeing halfway across the world so take that with a grain of salt). Too bad because the Sky approach has never been my favorite and wet and wild isn't their thing. So Froome might survive the P-R stage without too much loss.
