Rural roads for the first 10 miles or so. Very little access to this part of the course due to road closures and natural barriers. Must have been lonely for the riders. Then they enter the small 17th century village of Hanover Courthouse (well, that's old for us)!

About 6 miles further south, entering the outer suburbs, a crowd of maybe 4000 gathered at one spot, not in the pics. The schools were closed and the local merchants made a party/opportunity of it. This is two miles from my house. How cool is that?!

Very nice pics. It was certainly an interesting podium. Not surprised on Dumoulin but Martin has got to be disappointed.

Wouldn't it be less painful/ potential problematic to put the sandpaper on the shorts facing down with some fast-tac or the like and shred the saddle rather than the flesh?
