This was hinted at in the movie "Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist" Now it appears confirmed that the mafia had him booted.

To this day I can remember where I was when I saw the news

Meh...far from convinced. Original claim was dubious, this doesn't really do much to add credibility. No proof, no evidence,must another claim.

And the reality is that we all know he was doped to the gills....
