Go Boonen! I won't say he is in control of this race, but if you asked him last week if where he is now is OK, I doubt if he would say "no".

Boonen may not have won, but that has to be one of his classiest rides ever. And to do that with his recent past? He just went up a notch in my book.

| I was on my feet when they entered the velodrome. Thought Boonen was going to take it. Long day in the saddle. Good thing I set my DVR to record 30 min over, otherwise I would have missed the finish... |

too bad for Boonen, that guy was right there, great form, pretty funny consdering everyone was writing him off, too bad he did not get number five, tat truly would have been epic. Paris-Roubaix, what a great race, but an be so cruel at times. But when the stars and fates perfectly line up, can be so wonderful
Sagan's bunny hop over Fabian was crazy!! Surprised he did not go down, bad spill for Rowe and Terpstra. Any word on Viviani? read he had to go to the hopspital. |

| Nah....don't think it made a difference. That was just smart riding by Hayman. Some of the aerogeeks on ST tried to make the case that it mattered, but I don't think there is anyway you can realistically make that determination. |

| Being aero helps less when drafting, which he did a LOT of in the winning break during the final 10 k or so. He only saw the front when they weren't going hard or at the end with that great attack. Smart racing. |

I din't think he was really under any obligation to pull in the last 10K....he had been in the break since god knows when (he was in the group that Boonen's group eventually bridged up to) and had done a fair amount of work then. He also tried a solo move when the Boonen group was getting close to his group.
As noted, it was smart racing. Did the aero bike help? SOme would argue that he saved some energy as a result of the frame throughout the entire day. Some would then counter that by saying "well, the designs of the other bikes helped those riders save energy while on the cobbles"....
IN the end, the smartest rider won the day.... |

On another note I crashed like Spartacus yesterday although under different circumstances. Moment's inattention and I plowed through a series of those annoying flexing bollards that are supposed to protect us from cars but are more a nuisance than anything else. Must have hit half a dozen of them before I went flying at full speed, suspect chain catching one of them is what finally did me in. Hurting a bit and lost some blood but all good. Rode another 100k after and commuted to work today.

I'm not picturing those bollards catching your chain. What we have in places are plastic flaps sticking up, roughly the size and shape of a playing card. Annoying to hit but that is about it. Are yours like small flags?
Glad to hear you are OK. I know routine crashes are going to be more costly for me in terms of long term pain and consequences as a result of having nothing left over my ankle bones from so many crashes. Every day, I get reminded when I cross my ankles sititng.
Heal up, keep riding and start chanting the mantra of our motorized buddies. "Rubber down, siny side up."

Back to the P-R. Really cool that places 1 and 2 went to to riders who rode probably the two hardest rides of the day. I hadn't paid a lot of attention to Hayman. He was not on my radar, either re: this race or the peloton as a whole so I paid no attention to him in the break. It wasn't until after that I realized he was the lone hanger on from the break and that he did a lot of work over the day, even if he did sit in the last few kms. (And sitting in with that crowd wasn't a free ride. Not exactly uniform speed!)

| The result might have been different if Boonen hadn't gotten caught inside on the velodrome. It looked to me like he wanted to move out but couldn't until the very end. |

Ben - like these except they were right on edge of bike lane. They stand about 3 feet tall. Fortunately I am like rubberman.
