Yawn. A great win (no spoiler here) but a bit of a dull race.

Worst de Ronde that I can remember....looked like a training ride rather than a race.

Y'all not enjoying Dutch treat day at RVV? I thought it was a hoot.

Small groups coming in was evidence of how hard race was. The differences were small enough to keep excitement till end.

Snooze? Or evidence of a hard race? Watching Sagan going after Terpstra and getting nowhere.

OC, this puts new meaning to the term Going Dutch. And to emphasis, yesterday the women did more than their share. (3 podiums vs only two for the men.)

The first 2hrs of men's race were done really hard. I think they were done in for by time tv's turned on.

I only counted 1 Dutch guy on podium Ben. One dane one Walloon.

Women went 1 2 3 5 and 7.

Nope, definitely a snooze. The field acquiesced to QS once Terpstra was up the road...”OK,you got a guy up the road...we give.”

If Sagan was not in the second group, perhaps they would have chased harder and caught the riders ahead. Who wants to help bring Sagan to the front at the end of a hard race? Only his teammates (see Ben's prior post, which looks very smart right now). In other words, the winner's tactical decision to go fairly long was made smarter by looking at the chasing group chemistry.

Well Terpstra’s move was pretty textbook...I don’t think it was any kind of brilliant tactical decision. He went to cover Nibali and when Nibs sat up, was given his head to go for it. He was either gonna win or QS was gonna counter when he was caught.

Nonetheless, there was plenty of firepower in that lead group to at least try and do something....other than a half-hearted attempt by Sagan, everyone just gave up.

And i’m Tired of all the Sagan-whining...”oh, it is so hard for him to win these days”. Please....plenty of champions have been in the his position in the past. The reality is that Sagan doesn’t race well in,Ed’s it is through brute force. His tactics are poor and when other riders can be near hm, he doesn’t know what to do. (Although I will concede his first World’s win in Richmond was a well-raced win...but it is also the exception to the rule,IMO)

CK, some merit to what you said. Sagan is such a beast he's been able to win on strength alone. Now that he's a known entity and well marked his tactical savvy weakness (and lack of a strong team) is more apparent.

That said, every WC is marked every time he toes the line. It's not a coincidence that there is a 'curse' of the rainbow stripes.

Terpstra main tactical challenge was where and when to make the catch of lead trio. Very well executed. Anywhere else and at minimum he has to contend with Pedersen to finish. He learned from when he towed Kristoff to line.

And hats off to Pedersen for gutsy ride.

Yes, Pedersen was really tough to hang on to 2nd.
