The official TOU video.  Very watchable.  Decent commentary.  Spectacular scenery.  Playing out as a good race.  There's a new youngster to keep an eye on.

This is where TJ can pretend he's a GC candidate lol. Or at least he could until stage 2 haha.

I'll give TJ a bit of a break. He did a lot of work. (But not nearly as much as that kid. Watch out!)

"That kid", Sep Kuss. Fun to watch! That guy is born to go uphill. Drpeed the entire peloton, then caught and did the same to the breakaways 3 times in 6 stages. First time from a long ways out. First time he looked like he was hurting in the late kilometers, but so what? He had already put his stamp on the race. Second time he did it just because he could. And the final stage? Well why not? And both of those last two he finished looking fresh.

Yes, he is a pro on a (good) World team and Utah isn't even the best of the American races. But he is also just 23 (and an America). I hope he has good coaches and trainers and he can follow a good path. He is something special and could be boon to racing as a whole and especially American racing. Comes across as a clean kid with a gift that simply loves to use it.

As a loose analogy, like Ken Griffey Jr, that kid who was as good as anyone who ever picked up baseball and for his entire career, simply loved to play. I hope like Griffey, he races for a long time and never loses his love of it. And bigger ask, I would love it if he became an example like Griffey who carried himself well on the field, off the field and burnt no bridges. I got to be sitting behind Griffey at the playoff game against the Yankees when routine two out fly ball was hit to left center. As soon as the ball was hit, Griffey just started trotting into the third base dugout, inning over, paying zero attention to the fly ball he was supposed to catch. Without breaking stride, he brought his glove to his lap, the ball dropped in and he kept trotting to the dugout line nothing happened. That sequence is now a regular on Mariner's TV. I had no idea it registered with anybody else, but I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. This kid I watched this week is that natural a climber. I hope he always keeps it fun.

Kuss is on a team with some great mentors (Kruijswijk, Roglic, Gesink, Bennett) plus those guys will keep the pressure off and give him time to grow. Doesn't get much better than that. Sounds like he's going to Vuelta.
