| Publicity stunt. Like Lindsay Vonn wanting to race the Lake Louise World Cup with the men. Checking the times, Vonn would have been 5 seconds off first for the men. And that's on a women's course versus men's course. A women's team at Le Tour would get shelled so fast. |

Just to clarify - they don't want to compete against the men. They just want their own race, held at the same time, following the same course.
We seek not to race against the men, but to have our own professional field running in conjunction with the men's event, at the same time, over the same distances, on the same days, with modifications in start/finish times so neither gender's race interferes with the other. |

Why the hell not? The only issue that I see is that the roads would be closed for twice the amount of time... |

No, they want the same days, same stages, same lengths, etc.
What I can't ascertain is whether they want to be in the same group with seperate timing or on a different start time. |

Sounds like they want a different start time. If they were to start 30 minutes after the mens race, it would be very unlikely to interfere, although it would be nice from the POV of building womens cycling if they were to roll through first so fans would stick around on the road.
I think it's a great idea.

I agree, why the hell not!? And if you take into account a single caravan perhaps it wouldn't be quite twice the time -- but they might need to think about starting a bit earlier so that both groups could finish at a reasonable time. |

| How many of the women really want 200+ km stages? The long road stages in the Giro Donna and Tour de l'Aude Feminine or le Tour Feminine were never more than 130km. That's a big ask. I think it would be awesome however if the women started a shorter route in some town along the day's route but finished in the same town as the men a couple of hours before, in order to experience the atmosphere and media attention after the stages. It would also keep the spectators amused, particularly on mountain stages as they spend the entire day up there (the roads are typically closed in the morning). |
