and so it begins, reminds me of Floyd. Not at all surprised, I figured the hilarity would begin as soon as the Veulta finished. The RS legal team with do its best to put lightning back into the bottle

Seems like a tempest in a teapot.....I highly doubt Horner was firing up blood bags and testo patches for the final stage into Madrid. He would have been tested abundantly during the Vuelta....a surprise test the day after the race ended was not likely to turn up anything suspicious.

From the Velonews article: "It’s a shame for Horner, and for cycling, that his victory cannot be wholly embraced, but that’s the reality of today’s peloton. Riders have to realize that after winning the race, they must then be ready to convince everyone that they can believe it. Fans simply do not want to be taken for fools again. Despite so much progress, even “new cycling” remains a faith game. Believe it, or not, at your peril." Sad but true.

Don't scoff at the entertainment factor Entheo. In my opinion it is one of the best metrics to determine where anti-doping investigations should be directed. Dominance = boring = better start looking :-)

this season has proven to be full of exciting, unpredictable results; a result, as you suggest, of a cleaner sport. horner's result is just a little TOO unpredictable in my book.

That's not what I am getting at. Whatever Horner did or did not do, it will turn out to be small fry. Catching him will not make an impact when it comes to cleaning up the sport. Catching the big dogs that dominate (like LA) does make a big difference. So with limited resources at hand, that is where I think the anti-doping effort should go. There are plenty of obvious examples within and outside cycling of obvious dominance that continue to be able to do what they're doing while the small fry gets caught to make everyone look good. Anti-doping is still on the road to nowhere. So that is why I shrug at accusations thrown Horner's way (right or wrong): who cares, it will not make a difference, the Vuelta was entertaining to watch.

Age Groups? Big Boy races (i.e. IMs) are mass starts.... no hiding out from the redneck!
