My guess is that he means Picture 51 of Tony Martin. Yeah, that's a pretty aggressive position for descending.

Pssst.....Tony! Those pads are for your ARMS, not your chest!!!"

;-)

Man, one good bump and he is done for!!! Not even certain how he can ride a bike with balls that big.

(and more pics of Froome looking at his stem)

CK - I've done that couple times; that is so friggin uncomfortable and sapping. Couldn't hold it more that a handful of seconds.

Pantani doesn't get his just due for his overall bike handling skills.

Did Specialized ever do any wind tunnel testing of Tony M in that position ? Some where there is a frame / fork designer is just rolling his eyes.

It does look like one false move and it's all over

Holy crap. That is just not right.

Tell me that is just the shorts pad color just bleeding thru. If it's not that is just WRONG

I honestly don't know if that is the same race or not.....but someone posted the pic on the ST thread about his descending position, so I thought I would sahre.

As someone on ST said, I wanna be able to generate sack-shredding wattage on my TT bike.

Interesting...I found that pic with some commentary (don't try this at home)

Tony Martin after the final time trial of the Vuelta al Pais Vasco 2014. Tony sticks skateboard grip tape (like sandpaper) to the top of his saddle to keep him in the perfect aerodynamic position. Unfortunately, it tends to eat through his shorts - sometimes too far.

Tony, there's a better way! Velcro. Sew the hooks to your shorts and glue the loops to your saddle. End of ripped shorts. (Of course, you need to be careful where you sit after the race!)

I'm gonna guess that using Velcro would violate some rule of the UCI....likely creating some kind of mechanical advantage since it affixes the rider into a certain location.

Probably. My suggestion got about as much deep thought as it took to type. (More thought went into the visions of interesting things sticking to Tony Martin's hooks.)

Yup, its to circumvent UCI rule but it renders his shorts "single use". That's committment for you.

The aero thing has clearly jumped the shark. A funky TT lid or horrid-looking downtube is one thing but risking one's manhood ala Pantani off the back of the bike or sandpapering your nads to death…. that's just wrong

Pile up all the money and glory in the world and ask me to take a belt sander to my shorts while I'm in 'em? Not happening
