Wow, after reading this interview, she's just become one of my favorite riders. I remember her racing in the 80's but of course didn't know the story behind it all. http://www.theouterline.com/perspectives-on-doping-in-pro-cycling-2-inga-thompson-5/

Yeah, she was under my radar at the time. Part of it that I was involved with other things at that stage of my life. I loosely followed Connie Carpenter but not much in women's racing after she retired. Carpenter was probably the last American rider who could hit the top step riding clean. Inga Thompson, who arrived immediately after Carpenter had that option denied.

My respect for Thompson has just skyrocketed. Thanks, Inga.

I may be way off base here,( and I am sure I will be told) but these were the years of Lemond. His wins were in the mid 80,s if I remember correctly. Just a thought.
