Can these two morons on Universal, talk about Riders crash any more than they already have? STFU already.

I'm listening to EuroSport. Sean Kelly and whatshisname stopped talking about it within a minute or so.

Sucked for Ryder, though.....he was working his assos off.

The good thing is that this Vuelta hasn't so far been a crash fest like the Tour was. Yes, the rain and oil slick roads were a major part of the Tour crashes, but here we are seeing very hot oil slicked roads. A few have crashed, but it looks to me like everyone is riding more carefully.

A related aside: How is it that Froome crashes so infrequently given how little time he spends looking up? Is the computer on his stem giving him some info on what's ahead that we are not privy too?

The only possible explanation is it's not a computer, it's a Cerevellum Hindsight with the camera facing forward to give him a look upfield

They guys' got stem fixation, 'fer sure

“I am not a big fan of moves like that. We had just gone through a small village, with cobbles, and then a big descent, so the entire peloton is single-file, and then they drill it,” Hesjedal said. “Someone loses the wheel, and you’re caught out.

Yeah, that is called "bike racing", Ryder. You were poorly positioned and got caught out. Suck it up, buttercup.

The hell? You mean they aren't using the 'no drop' format to this ride?
Man, that's pretty harsh. Nobody's gonna like that

Quintana just went down HARD in the TT. Clipped the guardrail and tumbled head over heels. He is gonna lose a lot of time.

Disappointing. Tough blow for Quintana. Good thing is that he is young. He will have many more chances and he is smart enough to learn from this. I really wanted to see a tight race between him, AC and Froome. Oh well. Good time trial by Valverde. I hope he keeps riding well.

My main man, AC? He lived up to his rest day talk today of riding this to win. Lets see how he does in the high stuff.

I just saw on the Velonews website that Quintana reached down to adjust his shoe shortly before entering a decreasing radius corner. I'll bet anyone a doughnut or three that he spends the rest of his career starting TTs with his shoes and clothes just perfect

Quintana is really lucky he didn't tumble over that guard rail. Wouldn't want to have seen the results of that.

Quintana is now blaming his brakes for the crash.....

As for adjusting his shoe, I really don't think it had anything to do with the crash. It was seconds before and he had plenty of opportunity to get re-situated. He even appears to enter the turn at a pretty good angle / approach. If anything, it looks like a case of rider fixation.....he was looking straight ahead when he should have been looking inside his turn.

Was this dual pivots on CF rims? This oldster really doesn't like dual pivots to start with; to much power. And we have had a few discussions on the merits of CF braking surfaces. Have we now seen that combo wreck the favorite's Vuelta chances?

There's an old expression that would apply here. Everything in modulation.

Well, he has now revised his statement and saying that he "overbraked" in the turn.

Watch the video again....pretty clear it is rider error the whole way. He came in on a line that was too inside (not as well set up as I previously thought), the turn got tighter and he panicked. You can see him clearly focused on the guardrail and not looking inside.

Brakes, rims, carbon, whatever.....Quintana just blew the turn.

Guys need to learn how to crash properly. If you know you're not going to make it, don't overcook the brakes and go flying head first. There are far better ways to crash in a somewhat orderly fashion that are likely to prevent serious injury. He was very lucky on this one.

CK, Quintana was just trying to follow OC's advice about learning to crash properly. Takes practice doesn't it? (He should take it from me; there are things that are better not to perfect.)

LOL....I think he got it wrong today, then.

The irony was that he was actually lucky in how he crashed yesterday (even though he did it "wrong"). he rolled and tumbled instead of sliding out. Actually ended up being a "better" crash.....but definitely higher risk. He just got lucky he didn't suffer a major injury.

Huge props to Froome for finishing with AC and Valverde. 5K out, it looked like his Vuelta was over.

Spud, ugly? Even the CyclingNews reporting wasn't pretty. "Furhter back and there was a cras."

As I write this, CycoingNews hasn't said anything about the crash yet except that a number of riders were down or held up including sprinter Bouhanni .

Seems that Contador finished well enough to take 4 seconds from Valverde. Good work!

Yeah lucky for the inside 3K rule. To be honest, I expected more of a bunch sprint. So wished BOOM BOOM could have won that.

I knew Brambi couldn't get that break to hold with 2K to go. Hey, a top 10 finish isn't too shabby. Keeps chipping away in the GC. after his flat in stage 4 that dropped him down to 106 in the GC. He's now fought his way back th 41.

Just reading a Motorcycle cop providing security for the race went off the road and died. It is just being reported out. Having spent so many years in bike races in cars and on bikes I have an extra level of connection to this tragedy. My thoughts are with his family on what is generally considered easy duty for a cop.

Great racing, amazing to see those two finally battle it out one on one.

May be the same as Keith's link but here is the final 5k.
