and he is not a one-day racer and only a 2nd tier TT-er.

Entirely a personal decision....can't blame him one bit. And let's be realistic - 1) the Olympics aren't that big of a deal for professional cyclists and 2) Teejay had no shot at a medal anywhere.

The medical community is split.
Pregnant women should stay away, or be very cautious, and there IS the possibility of sexually transmitted Zika infection from a partner.
One commentator put those competing in the rowing, sailing, etc sports at greater risk of illness from the cesspool that is the Rio waterfront.
IMO, the olympics are a scam.

^^^ This-- the Olympics are a scam and Rio is a horrid place to host.
They ought to hold summer games in Athens, winter games in Oslo or Helsinki and quit this idiotic bribe fest and having games in ill suited places.

My prediction: there will be more cases of Syphilis than Zika associated with the Rio Ole Games
