Looks like a crash-likely first 9 days. And cobbles. Will be tough for the light pure climbers. Sky will have the best team money can buy.

Real cobbles. 15 sectors and I believe around 18 miles. Sky will have to get Froome across them intact. I hope others will see this as an opportunity to put some real time on Sky. (Should we be praying for rain? I know, sounds sick.)

I'd love to see Dumolin (sp) and Quintana do something there. (Quintana has shown he can ride cobbles. Not a Nibali, but not a slouch either.)

It's a very varied route that offers not only cobbles but wind and narrow roads, some exciting mountain stages and limited TT kms where Froome typically kills the competition. It could be a wide open and exciting race or a number of lead contenders could crash out early and make it a snooze fest. Bit of a gamble but the first TdF route in quite a while that in itself leaves a taste of potential excitement.

Ban the power meters and Froome will have to look up the road. I'm for that, too.

I am so so tired of Sky vacuuming up all available talent to serve Froome. A salary cap would level the field and provide for much more exciting racing. As for the route, that Roubaix stage will be a botch for the GC guys, except Nibali who has shown before he can get across the nasties. Imagine Quintana bouncing all over the place and trying to stay in contention? GEESH!!

Hab, a couple of years ago, Quintana rode one of the cobbled classics. Finished somewhere mid-field. For a light climber, Quintana has a solid build (and isn't afraid to use it - he now gets peloton respect after he pushed one of the "goons", to use a hockey term, off the road).

Goon aka enforcer: A big strong hockey player hired primarily for his bodychecking and fighting abilities and used to both harass key opposing players and protect key teammates.

I remember that Ben, but he was riding on the cobbles then as practice. Riding when all the chips are on the table is another matter. Movistar will have him surrounded so he won't need much in the way of goon like tactics methinks.
