for TDF captain?
another "let the race decide" situation?
Seems like Cadel has no more than one or two TdFs left in him, and is looking like a contender this year. Given that Teejay has a lot of years in front of him, seems like Cadel's earned the chance to go for it at least one more year with full team support.
That is, unless he's going to deep contending the giro to ride a quality TdF. |

My guess is, it's a done deal for Tejay. These days, finishing the Giro in the top 10 means you went too deep to win the Tour. If Tejay is healthy, he'll be the guy. If you play it right though, it can't hurt to have two (see Sastre, CSC). Cadel has got to be pretty thrilled to be in contention for the Giro.
What will be interesting is how BMC races in the TdSuisse or Dauphine. Do they put Tejay in the same race as Froome or Contador and how does he do head to head against them on the climbs? |

The team supports both. If one falters, don't wait. Play both cards. Saying Teejay has plenty more chances is dumb. Think Cunego/Simoni. Cunego was young and had plenty of more chances to win the Giro. Lampre used him to open it up and he actually won the race. How many more Giro's did he win?

Teejay might win his first ever stage race, against a group of less than top notch stage racers, and you want him to captain a major team in the tour?
Me I'd pass on him this year and protect Cadel and roll the dice on more time. |

| Ride On, I agree with you that the ToC field isn't GT quality but TJVG's result last year in the TdF earned him the shot at a co-leadership. I agree with those who say protect both TJVG and CE until the race decides who the leader is. Two-thirds of the teams at the TdF this year would wet themselve to have a gut who was top five last year going for the box again this year. |

I like jookey's post. Sent Teejay up the road. Support him early. If it works, other teams have to ride hard and Cadel can ride their coattails.

| Let the road decide is a tough call. It is much better to go in with the team all knowing who to support. No questions. That said, In this case, I can see it working if one rider is the designated leader until and t he starts looking like other is much stronger. Can you see a two leader thing working at Sky? Or anytime Armstrong rode an event? |

| thinking the Giro takes the edge off anymore, way harder than folks realize. Snuggles won't have it, TJ may be a better choice |

| It is the politically expedient thing for BMC to do, and the road will ultimately decide in July, anyways. It importantly allows Evans to focus on the remainder of the Giro, and he'll need all the help he can get! |

He has earned the right with this ride.
If he were not in a podium position but still in the top 10 even, I would say he would still get the nod considering how hard this Giro has been. |
