Time moved to 11:00....or I had the start time wrong, dunno.

Wiggins says he thinks Campenaerts will break his record.

I think you had time wrong; it didn't move, 18:00 Belgian time, started just now.

Yeah, definitely not the most visually enticing event, is it? LOL!!

He is looking good....almost halfway through and he is @ 55.08 KM/H. Wiggins went 54.5km. I imagine some slowdown is inevitable? Hard to believe he can negative split it, but I guess we'll see....

Avg speed going up....halfway through he was up to 55.1 KM/hr. Even if he faded by 1 km/hour from there on, he would still eke out the record.

He has started to slow ever so slightly...was up to 51.15 km/hr and has dropped to 55.11....but only 15 min left. He should have it as long as he doesn't completely implode.

Good thing I had to conduct an interview with a job candidate. Missed most of it.

55km an hour. I can only get that fast now and even before going down hill. And I don't think I could even do that for an hour without just falling over.

Ah c'mon....you can't sustain 34mph?!?!?!

My local Tuesday / Thursday group ride (which is known as one of the faster group rides in the area) has one return stretch of about 6 miles, straight south. If we are drilling it , we can usually hold ~30mph....but we are also rotating and are all completely gassed at the end.

Campenaerts did 34 mph solo for a freakin' hour.....I can't even comprehend how hard that must have been.

I did 70 kph the other day and wasn't even pedaling; heck no aero tuck even :-)

That is a nice bike. And campagnolo for the win!

I doubt I could have ridden one lap at 34 mph when I raced. Campenaerts did 220.

Well with that lovely example of functional aerodynamic art, maybe you could have Ben. I wonder what Merckx or Anquetil might have done with modern gear. Or the current elite on the old school gear. Toe straps, steel frames, etc. Yes I'm just daydreaming. I'll give Campy credit: they are still here at the cutting edge.

Achieving 55km really puts into perspective the effect of hard-core doping that ran rampant in the early 90's. Think about it. 25 years ago Tony Rominger hit 55.25km on a STEEL Colnago with similar aerobars and disc wheels. Training programs have advanced significantly back then and Victor focused on this for months while Rominger decided to do the hour sort of at the last minute with not a ton of preparation.

That stuff must have been pure jet-fuel for the human body.
