Watching the TTs. U23 men had deep standing water on the course today, no warning, some crashed, many nearly crashed. Crazy.
Hopefully the weather will improve for the road races, otherwise will be a demolition derby. A reason to host the Worlds is to show off your town. Not working so far, just cold, wet and dreary there. |

Mixed Relay TTT was the dumbest event I have ever seen....total snooze fest.
Watching three people swap turns is not my idea of an exciting race. |

Based on my experience with Seattle and Portland (33 years total), this could be working. Wouldn't want an outsider thinking our towns were a good place to live.

| Today we truly saw a Merckx level dominance not seen since EPO fueled Indurain slapped undoped Greg Lemond or Geneviève Jeanson dominated for a few years before being excommunicated. Hoping that this performance for the ages was clean. I watched the same winner crush the competition as a Junior in the Richmond Worlds TT and RR in my hometown 4 years ago. At that event, her's was the only performance that rivaled Sagan's. |

| Van Vleuten did say her own performance was subpar and disappointing, did not meet her expected power output at any time in race. I think an in form van Vleuten would have kept margin to within a minute. |

| If you watched the Colorado Classic, you knew that maybe Chloé might not have the physical goods to dominate the Worlds, but you knew she had the fire. Also that her uphill performance was/is incredible for a body not of a mountain goat. As lsd suggested, a Merckx. |

Tony Martin this year has shown the path to redemption for the fickle TT specialists. I doubt that Dennis has what it takes though.
So this was his first race after he stepped off his bike in France and he uses his old BMC machine instead of the Merida. I wonder why he gets paid at all. |

| BTW the weather prediction for Sunday is an absolute deluge. If the U23 TT is any indication, conditions could be interesting. That one guy that hit the open water and came to an instant standstill, hahaha. |

Trek scooped up the Mighty Quinn who will be pulling an Evenepoel skipping the U23s.
When you refer to Mapei days as "a few years back", that's surely a sign of age. It seems like a lifetime ago to me. |

The US didn't take control of the Men's U23 today. They missed everything significant. Had they a man in the early break, they could have saved their legs and perhaps made the big split later. Seems they had one lapse and the peleton split then. (Or maybe they were marked and when they drifted back, everyone knew it was time to go?)
Now the U23 US women did OK. Megan Jastrab looks like one to watch for in the future as a smart racer. Has she raced the track? That looked like like track tactics/knowledge.

Mixed feelings here re: Eekhoff's DSQ. 2 minutes behind the team car. Yes that qualifies for the DSQ, but after a crash and with 130 km still to go? Pretty harsh. Did another team, perhaps of one of the other 4 final contestants, register a complaint?

I saw the video. It was pretty blatant drafting and it lasted a long time (2 minutes according to the Dutch coach). So nothing wrong with the DQ itself maybe (although what Eekhof did happens all the time so it is a bit random) but long time that passed between the infraction and the DQ is a major issue. It only happened after the Italians and Brits reportedly protested.
Also, If the video showing the infraction wasn't part of the live feed used for video refereeing perhaps it shouldn't be used in making decisions at all. Otherwise you risk going down a path without end.
What happened today is the equivalent of a winning goal in final minute of a soccer game being disallowed because the losing team protests a foul that happened somewhere in the first half. Shakes head. |

Classics course, classics weather. The Classics specialists peaked 5 months ago.
Make your picks. Some will be right, but no one will be wrong because we all know this is a bit of a lottery. But no one doubts the winner will be worthy.
Liking Alaphillipe, with the vibe and the WW goatee. Good course for a wolf in a mellow dude suit.
But oh man those low country Euros!
Truly a course for a national team that gets it together and has the athlete to finish. Could be epic. |

| Pretty sure there will be a lot of crashes tomorrow in deluge. Lots of tight corners. That bridge looked nasty. Today was like watching grass grow albeit with excellent final result. I guess you guys missed the memo that VDP did 100kms of bonus dernie training after his race last week. He'll go the distance. |

I’ve admired the US men’s junior romp and Dygart’s slam in the elite women’s TT. But kudos to the Dutch, they topped it all today.

I haven't watched the race yet, had another commitment (something more important than the Worlds? Say it ain't so! Please don't fire me from this forum!), rather just checked in every couple of hours. Will watch the replay tomorrow. Any particular moments I should make sure to watch twice? |

World cycling championships held in the UK in October... What are the chances of it being very rainy and cold and pretty much miserable?
World track & field in Doha, Qatar, where half the marathon field ends up dnf due to heat exhaustion.
The only sporting event that makes sense to me this week is the Rugby world cup in Japan. |

Nice analogy Ben, I bet the were all running on fumes at that point.
Couple of points:
1) VdP looked like a leadout man who just delivered his sprinter to the front and called it a day. I've never seen a more spectacular implosion.
2) Very happy that Moscon didn't podium... he's a punk
3) Surprised Trentin didn't win the sprint. Under normal conditions I would have been rooting for him but rather not see Moscon take any glory from a team mate winning. See #2
4) Zero surprise Dennis got canned.
