Now called Manuela Fundacion......and I am getting seriously bad vibes about this. Reminds me way too much of le Groupment, Linda McCartney, Team Coast, etc.

Well pro cycling isn't like an NFL franchise where it goes up in value every year. Wealthy people or companies pouring money into an enterprise with a poor rate of return.

As one of my teammates observed, "I have no idea why any business would pay to have their name on an amateur race team jersey or give them anything for that matter." I think the same applies to pro teams.

Would I sponsor a pro team if I were Bill Gates, yeah probably but only because I like pro bike racing. Not that it would have any potential to generate revenue for me.

I think there are two things at play here....

1) The value of sponsoring a professional cycling team.

2) The huge sketchiness of this new sponsor. There are a lot of red flags getting waved right now, IMO....and as I noted, very similar to previous debacles with other teams. The guy behind this foundation is not some multi-billionaire, but a contractor. There is almost no information about this foundation and no one seems to know where the money is coming from (if at all).

If I was the Yates Bros, I'd be out talking to teams immediately.

Well, as the Spanish headline asks "What pushes a businessman from Granada to buy a bankrupt cycling team?"

Bankrupt Michelton were so it can't be worse than that. At least it sounds like a guy with his heart in right place, putting a lot of money into local good causes. He could well be in over his head though.

It puts recent musings by van Vleuten who is at end of her contract in context.

Desperate times at GreenEdge. Seems like the manager Shayne was a little premature announcing the new sponsor without parties having properly agreed to or signed anything, first to annoyance of GreenEdge owner and now to annoyance of Spanish outfit. Not a particularly promising start.

Meanwhile everyone is sitting at 30% salary cause Mitchelton is broke so one way or another this team will come apart at wheels pretty fast. That’s cycling it seems.

This whole deal is gonna fall apart before it ever launches....what a mess. there isn't even agreement on the most important question - who actually owns the team and controls the license?

Saw that. It falls solidly on the GreenEdge manager IMO who caught both sides off guard.

The Spanish outfit were pretty clear on intent for anyone spending 5 mins doing research. That intent may not be realistic but still.

And Bannan is gone.

Zero surprise.
