Life's dope slaps can be painful and humiliating, but if received in the right frame of mind may offer an upside.
(I've certainly received a few. Learned from some, repeat dope slap from some others.)

From the way-back machine, Craddock was one of Gurbs students when Craddock was a student in Houston. Gurb told us to be on the lookout for the kid to be a real rider.
