Sprints for what he thought was the win but was 2nd, then crashes when the saddle falls off.

So he really wanted to dedicate a win to his newborn; this may explain his error, a bit too eager and not paying attention. He says he now has a really fun crash photo as memorabilia for his son. Having a good laugh about it. Oh, and reading just now he was badly injured in the Jakobsen crash in Poland (neck) and then he injured himself skiing. Bad luck just follows some people around.

Anyone know why the saddle fell off? Loose bolts? Broken bolt or clamp?

I almost did that at my first Cycle Oregon only there were no spectators. Day two. Rattlesnake Climb. 20 miles of slight downhill into the wind. Then a grand descent down a canyon coming into the town of our camp. Last couple of blocks were steep concrete slabs poured many years ago. Big discontinuities between slabs.

I'd targeted the climb. Rode it strong, passing hundreds? Kept on going but now passing others slowly. Three women joined me and we rode as a well oiled machine until the descent. Separated going down. I hit that last steep part that dropped onto Main St and sat up, threw my arms out and relished the ride - until CRACK!! through the whole bike. Grabbed the bars in a panic. Stopped and checked the bike at the bottom. Couldn't see anything and bike felt fine so I went on. Saw the women, joined them and had one of them on my wheel when my seat fell off. Broken Avocet clamp. I wasn't going fast and was seated with both hands on the bars, so it was no big deal but doing Prades' slide down a 15% grade and maybe introducing my tailbone to a slab mismatch? (I've busted my tailbone much more gently and it wasn't fun.)

Now that footage is fun! And Prades took it well. (Someth8ing to show his newborn in a few years.) I'd love a still shot of Prades in open arm salute on his (for a split second) recumbent!

Life can be so cruel. This is not JA or Merckx or others laying a big fat ego egg, this is just cruel.
