The drone footage is superb.

No such thing as the perfect tire.. you weigh the pros and cons against where you'll benefit and where you're at a disadvantage against others who chose differently.

I'll only see 1/2 of the Mens race before I board a flight at ORD.
The rest I'll watch when I get home on flobike's replay

I’m going to try to wake up for 6 am tomorrow. Couldn’t make it happen today for women race.

Flawless racing where it was a full on display of power and skill.

From the first minute the top two podium steps were not in doubt.

That was about as tactical as a CX race can get.

Good god, man....get GCN and a VPN. Cheaper and substantially better cover (plus no ads).

I can't believe how badly FLO lost the plot...back when they had all the RCS & Flanders races, they were pretty good. Now they are ridiculously expensive vs. GCN with very little content....

and they post spoilers when you try and watch replays.

and in the "bike racers are tougher than footballers" category Michael van den Ham's first lap dislocated and reset finger was epic. I was watching the replay and thought "did I just see what I thought I saw?"
Yes I did.

and when my yearly subscription to flobike is up I'll make the switch.

That was great - wasn't sure that was what I was seeing, but looked familiar ; )

We see van den Ham on local racing circuit sometimes as he lives in Lower Mainland. He may may or may not have been the recipient of Tinhouse beer handups. The junior sister twins from Ontario did better with gold and silver.

The twins were fun to watch. The amount of joy was palpable. Way cool.

In the not-so-cool category.
Can we get the UCI to do something?
Photog about took out VdP
Cell phone to the face of... was it Matthews a few days ago?
Moto's running guys into barbedwire fences
Official cars plowing into riders.
Oma/Opa-like fiascos

I think its time to get serious about something other than sock height, but that might just me me.

You forgot downhill sprints (Poland) and barriers being put up wrong side pointing out (where Wout suffered a major flesh wound during TT). Unfortunately, while UCI should do more a lot of this comes down to local organizers. Adrie made a super safe course in many ways. Note the gap between spectators and race course. Not hundreds of drunk spectators hanging over barriers as you seem in many cyclocross races. The mechanics were also happy that they didn't have to battle spectators to get to their area. All well thought out.

The photog, much like the Omi/Opi incident, falls in the personal responsibility category.

BTW, had Wout won he would have received $20k from Belgian federation. Those guys are rich. VDP gets zip. The Dutch federation scraped a few euros together for a minor party. They had spent their cash instead on sending junior team to Benidorm.

Re the drone footage- simple amazing. You could get a better idea of the speed those guys ride when the drone followed right behind.

Some smart aleck called the drone Pitcock because all it did was follow the two of them.

Read an interview with the guys that are responsible for drone footage. The drone tops out at 30kph. Coming out of forest it kept having to take a shortcut to keep up. One of them is operator just focusing on drone the other a spotter for safety making call when to use it and when to park it.

How did Pitcock do?  I couldn't find him in the results.

Pidcock declined to start. I think Nieuwsblad and Bianci are early objectives that are coming up fast.

Funny.  That reminds me of going out in a Boston Whaler to video an Australian 18 sailboat.  Seattle.  Puget Sound on a windy day.  So rough we could not run full throttle upwind and do any filming.  So we cheated and went straight upwind while they tacked.  Downwind the 18 flattened out the water and we could almost keep up.

Pretty funny, being in a powerboat once thought of as pretty sporty and not being able to keep up with an 18' sailboat.  Aussie 18 - 18' max length, one hull (no catamarans) and not many other rules.  Mast and sail area are whatever you want to put on.  (Boats typically have two or three masts and sets of sails and use the appropriate for the day.  Ridiculously fast.  We watched them run from the Golden Gate to Angel Island in minutes, early '80s when I raced much more pedestrian boats there.  Easily 25 miles per hour.  The one we chased in Seattle was a more modern, faster boat though in less wind and practicing, not competing.  (That crew went to Australia, was given a brand new boat and won the pro series.)

So I know what it's like, being that hapless and slow drone.   Only we were so wet we couldn't have flown.

And what about 17 year Andrew August. Crashed at start completely ripping his outfit and trashing his bike. Lost 1:38 in that process. Finished 1:41 behind the ultimate winner so was effectively racing at same pace. Impressive.
