Historians, how often does the Dauphine winner win the Tour? Did Froome peak too soon?

Froome. 8 Sky guys will ride " tempo " on the front stage after stage and it will be very dull.

+1 Jookey, also +1 longslowdistance, he may have peaked too soon, but this resembles last years build up to the Tour, except now it's Froome and Porte

I just posted this on Inferno's thread on today's Dauphine. AC, ??, Froome. AC will take advantage of someone riding really well and pull a crazy, dragging that someone up to 2nd place as he goes on to win. You know AC is 1) smart enough to know this is his best chance and 2) has the race smarts to "get' when it should happen, no DS or race radio needed, 3) has the allies prepared in the peloton and 4) has the crazies/heart to pull it off. And 5), that guy who happens to be his "ally" knows if he pours his guts into this crazy move, Contador won't let him down.

AC wasn't there last year and it was a dull race.

The new drug-free Contador is looking to me a little like Richard Virenque. Will he go after a redeeming polkadot jumper in the Tour? Of course, Virenque looked that way both drug-free and drug-addled.

PlanB, this is June, not July. Contador has historically had trouble in June which he has always attributed to allergies. I don't give the Dauphine results or how he rode a lot of weight. Sacrificing a possible 6th place after that bad TT in a week race that doesn't matter to build good feelings inside his team trying to help Rogers to the podium is far from
go(ing) after a redeeming polkadot jumper in the Tour
.

I am hoping that the Spanish "national" team of Contador, Rodriguez and Valverde will throw enough firepower at Sky that they won't be able to do the riding Tempo strategy. I don't really expect them to ride together, but I am hoping that their combined styles and aggressiveness will make this race significantly different then last years.

Ben, I'm not referring to his results or condition. I mean, he LOOKS like Virenque. Even when he wasn't winning or dominating in previous Junes, his elbows, shoulders, and head weren't doing what they're doing now.

PlanB - You mean to say that, now that he's no longer part of the mutants, he actually has to work to make a living? :-)

based on what i'm seeing at the dauphine i'm convinced the peloton is much cleaner than years gone by. on the summit finish a couple days ago, everyone was grimacing and shoulders were rocking, froome's included. richie porte set an infernal pace up the climb until he popped.

anyway, i think it's froome's to lose. i expect many surprises, as has been the case this entire season, so i'm not even going to venture a guess for 2nd & 3rd. "sans jours" are back on the menu, boys.

AC, Froome, on of the America T's. Sagan gets the green while the manx missle notches a few more wins.

Andy Schleck looked like he was working on form at ToC. Still the legs didn't have the stamina or his head just isn't in the game any more.

Schlep says he is unsure of his form. I am pretty sure of it. BAD.

I think Rodriguez will lurk in the shadows early on and then punish all the "favorites" in the mountains. I truly think he is in a class of his own on the climbs. Podium: Rodriguez, Contador, Froome.

Froome is busy making "marginal gains" on Tenerife. I will go ahead and and jinx him by making him my pick.

My feeling is that Sky is still playing with hot sauce of some kind, many other teams are not. The UCI has 8 years after the fact to get it right, no?

I'm starting to like my pick more and more, excellent iTT today, one of the stronger guys in the mountains, stage win and 2nd in TdS. Not bad. Looking forward to a breakthrough performance in France.

Don't forget the crashes. At least a couple of GC guys will get taken out by crashes. Happens every year.
