A recent post talked about Cav's great PR move for SRAM hydraulic brakes.
Quote from today:
"I don't want to use this f'ing bike. What the f is wrong with this bike."
I wonder if Specialized is just as happy with their PR as SRAM is with theirs. |

He didn't want to ride the bike because of a brake issue after his crash.
From Cav:
"I think there were a lot of factors — for sure the crash didn't help. It took a lot of energy to get back. I can't say for sure though, you know, Andre was really strong today and he deserved the win. I'm disappointed, but you know we won the stage yesterday, and the morale is still good. We rode strong all day in difficult conditions, so it's OK. We've got another two weeks left."
Cavendish also shared his emotions via Twitter saying: "So so hot today! But no Manx sunburn.. Road-burn? Yup. Hit the deck. Leg-burn? Yup. Got beat in the sprint. Nice one @AndreGreipel." |

There is an article this morning (on CyclingNews? on Cav that says when he loses, he is really hot for two hours, that everyone knows just to stand clear, After that, he's cool. Everyone who knows or deals with him regularly respect that he puts all into his ride, much like a boxer, and much like a boxer, you keep your distance when he loses. Once he cools off, he'll apologize to anyone he has offended, be gracious to those that beat him, etc.

I don't know how any 20 something could keep their calm after busting their ass for 5+ and then get off the bike and give an interview. Win, losed or draw. I think most of these guys are more than civil considering the work they do in a race and the cost for losing.
One of the very few sports I am really surprised at how civil the players are all the time is Hockey. |

But I am wrong, to some degree. He is not a 'prima donna'

There is no such thing as an elite athlete who doesn't have a fiery passion for winning. Cav is a prolific winner because he is so hungry for the finish line (there are other racers with his physiology but not his mentality).
We don't hear as much from other racers because there aren't 50 journos in their face. Look at the end of the stage when AG won. There were five journos talking to him and 50 poking mics at MC (and chasing him to the team camper). Also, American's don't hear from non English speaking racers too much (when we do the translations is usually off). We know that Cav twitted AG and PS when they won. Did either of them twit Cav when he won? We don't know because it hasn't been reprinted 500 times. If they didn't should we call them names...jerks, poor sports, sore losers, primo uome? |

| Whether you like an athlete is personal. We all have particular personalities we warm to and certain personalities that we don't like. All cool. In terms of ability and traits that make a good sprinter, Mark is holding a royal flush of a hand. I like the guy and definitely respect his abilities. I think I would like him less if he wasn't so cocky. I have seen him off the bike too and his example was pretty good. He is a real team player from what I have seen. |

Cav is just Cav, you either love him or you hate him, you just listen to about 1/4 of what he says, that's all
The SRAM hydraulics are very good, I have ridden a pair on a demo, they just look like schite, so I would have to agree with him on the looks. The brake hoods are huge, and look funny, but it does not affect the performance, or ergonomics. |
