God help me, but if Svein Tuft is the last in the TDF all the rest must be made of something unimaginable. He is one bad dude. I had the god fortune several years ago to watch him start and win a race from Williamsburg to Richmond. The race started in snow and freezing rain, ended in Richmond after several laps around downtown where he launched away and destroyed the field. Nearly half the field dropped out, was a miserable day and he excelled. I know that at 36 he was the oldest rookie rider in the peloton, but if that is what happens when a rider of his caliber goes to the tour then there is no hope for mere mortals like us! I'm in awe.

Thanks for the link. This year's course was especially hard for a lumberjack like Tuft. No asterisk for him (please let that be true).

yaletown crit in Vancouver, I think it was 2009. Svein rode away solo from the pro-1-2 field, lapped the pack, then rode off the front again and put half a lap on them.

I think the parcours this year wasn't totally tailored to him either This years tour was more geared for the pure climbers than to the dog towing specialists.
