I don't like this man. He seems to be far too focused on winning at any cost. He and Bryuneel would get along fine if you know what I mean.

Agreed.....I would avoid any association with the guy were I a team owner. But money still talks....unfortunately.

agreed also, Oleg is kind of a slithery slimey kind of guy. After the fallout at Saxo-Tinkoff after the Tour, how long does Riis think he will actually have a job?

This could work out well for Contador for this upcoming season. Riis will no longer be managing the team (ie lining up sponsors, keeping money flowing) but will be working with riders. I believe he and Contador work well together.

Maybe after a year, both will be tired of Tinkoff and leave together for another team.

I have mixed feelings about all of this. Riis is a big chunk of the old EPO days. Contador certainly hasn't always been squeaky clean. But I love Contador's riding. He is a bike racer with brains, instinct and heart to go with very good and versatile engine. It's those intangibles that make him so much fun to watch. The guy who doesn't need a headset to know when to go.

I saw some reporter tried to tie Google into the announcement since it was going to be at one of their offices. If they can Google money flowing into cycling ...man watch out.

Well, the path is now paved for Riis to exit the team (and sport) when the Danish Anti-Doping commission comes down on him like a ton o' bricks.

I am putting the "over / under" date for team implosion at the Amstel Gold Race. I'm taking the "under". No way this turns out well. Froome should breathe easy re: any potential challenge from AC this year.

I wouldnt be so quick to write off AC. He will have bjarne's full attention and will be motivated to show he isnt washed up. Probably wants one more contract

If Riis is around, then I would agree. But my point was that Bjane is staring a lengthy (possible lifetime?) ban in the face. he won't be around come July and he knows it. That is why he sold his team that he built form scratch.

@ thinline - I think Froome is breathing slow and steady re: that challenge.

well if froome is anything like he was this year I dont think he should worry too much about anyone. It remains to be seen if he can ride over the cobbles, but if he doesnt crash he should be OK. Still repeating is tough. A lot of luck needed. RE: Riis CK youre probably right that he wont be there. But I do think the motivation will be high for Berto. At the very least he should give Froome a run for his mney.

There are things about his financial plan I welcome but his primary desire is victory and I get a sense he does not care how those results are achieved. The rest has been said already.

Didnt Tyler say that doping was ongoing/encouraged at Tinkoff? -- found it 2012 article from CN

"Tyler Hamilton has continued to expose his and cycling's dark past by alleging former Olev Tinkov, former owner of Tinkoff Credit Systems and now sponsor of Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank, suggested his riders do what was required to achieve results, "just don't get caught."
