now the waiting begins.

any idea about your logistics yet? Going with a group? Or do you just throw your stuff on a truck each day?

Spending a week riding a bike is a fantastic thing.

it's a lottery so i'm not in yet but they say the odds are really good if you sign up. so far i'm going by myself but if a like minded group needs someone then i may hook up. as far as logistics, i'll try to find either a ride back to the start or to the start from the finish. they have charters but i'm cheap. they carry all your stuff provided you can get it all in one bag. never done a ride like this so it will be an adventure.

Tomorrow is the Cycle Oregon sign-up. Kick-off party was last week when they announced the route. (Starts and ends in the Dulles. First day north into Washington state to Mt. Adams, then back trough the Dulles and south. Then Warm Springs and continue south, spending a lot of time looking at the Sisters mountains, they return to the Dulles. 34,000 feet of climbing in 7 days. 500 miles if you ride all the options.

I'm in. That I know, The first 500 at the kickoff were given cards with passcodes ensuring a place. I was #150. (And I waited in line for an hour in a very windy 20 degrees in my cycling clothes to get it.)

Edit:  Didn't see your post relative to logistics until i posted.  Cycle Oregon had a strict 1 bag limit, no more than 65 pounds.  You can bring your own tent.  Most stops are in towns where we camp on football fields, true luxury when we visit the towns with high school powerhouses, but this isn't always the case.  Last year we spent three nights in two separate fields where we were outnumbered by the cow paddies.  For those who want to spend more time drinking and have the chairs to do it in style, there is porta-camping.  Tents are set up condominium style in long rows, each with a number.  For a fee, you get a number.  Then all you do in the morning is pack your bag and leave it in the tent,  That evening, your bag is sitting in the tent with the same number.  (Different tent; it was set up while we were riding yesterday.)

for rides like that, I put all my stuff in a big dry bag. sometimes it gets dumped in a pile while you are out riding. good to know your stuff will be dry if it rains.
